UNIVERSITY OF THE INCARNATE WORD
MEXICO CAMPUS
A SUCCESS STORY
March 2013
The University of the Incarnate Word, developed Centro
Universitario Incarnate Word (CIW) in Mexico City, in 2002.
CIW responds in an innovative manner to the needs of
Mexico City students seeking to pursue Bachelor and Master
degrees with an international emphasis.
The programs are offered in Mexico City, but students can
complete part of their studies in the USA.
The CIW Project
CIW is a branch campus of UIW, it is permanent in nature,
has its own faculty, administrative organization, Board,
budget and hiring authority.
UIW provides a unique energy to CIW, particularly due to
its inherent international activity.
Additionally, CIW is part of a network of educational
institutions, including the Instituto Miguel Angel a K-12
school in Mexico City.
The CIW Project
The CIW Project
CIW opened it´s doors in 2003 and currently offers different
Bachelor Degrees in:
Business, Political Science, Psychology and Nutrition.
CIW also offers Master Degree programs.
The entire population in the Mexico City metropolitan area
easily surpasses 22 million inhabitants.
Mexican government statistics indicate that in the Federal
District, 55% of the population is younger than 30, and only
6% is over the age of 65. (*)
There is a need to offer opportunities to provide high
school, technical, baccalaureate and graduate education in
order to fulfill the demand and increase the population’s
educational level.

D.F. enrollment in the 2010-2011 academic year: About
462,000 in Bachelors’ programs.
Mexico is challenged by global competition, therefore,
educational systems will have to become more practical and
innovative, with flexible programs and services.
Approximately 25% of all high school students in Mexico live in
the metropolitan area of Mexico City.

Before UIW decided to open the campus in Mexico City, the
supply and demand of 75 high schools was studied.
Considering the number of annual graduates from these 75 high
schools, there are over 5,500 potential students annually who
could enroll in the area’s educational institutions.
Many continue their education in private institutions, focusing on
those offering a varied and high quality education, as well as an
active international orientation.

Student Population in Mexico City
Competition
Of a total of 3,647 private universities in Mexico
accredited by SEP, there are 485 in Mexico City,
with a total of 127,891 students (*)
Of these, there are 65 universities that are
competing with the CIW project. 16% of those

degree is accredited by SEP (Ministry
of Education). UIW in Texas
recognizes the studies of students at
CIW
Students can graduate from CIW with
a Mexican degree, a U.S. degree, or
both, provided they successfully
complete all requirements, from both
countries.
International Exchange Programs
•CIW students can study up to
two semesters at UIW in San
Antonio, without paying tuition
in the U.S.
Since the programs and
courses at CIW are equivalent
to the ones offered at UIW, the
students continue their study
sequence, and when they go
back to CIW, their studies are
fully credited
