Mexico Mission Trip 2014 July 19-July 26

Thank you for your interest in taking part in the 2014 Mexico Mission Trip. Please read this letter carefully as there are some changes from previous years.

Purpose This mission trip is an intergenerational trip consisting of youth from ninth grade and up. The trip involves three key components – building houses in a depressed area of Tijuana, building relationships with one another, and growing in the Christian faith.

Dates This trip is an opportunity to serve those less fortunate in our own nation. All participants are expected to take part in respecting the customs and culture of Mexico and respecting their fellow travelers. The dates of the trip are all inclusive and all travelers are expected to remain with the group throughout the trip, returning to participate in the worship service on July 27.

Age Requirement and Parent Participation Students going into ninth grade and up may attend however due to the nature of the trip, first time students under the age of 16 must have a parent attend with them or another approved, responsible adult.

Passports Required All participants must have an up to date passport in order to attend. It can take 2 months to obtain a passport. Please don’t wait!

Cost Trip Cost $450 Includes building materials for the homes in Tijuana, food, water,

transportation and other necessary expenses.

Auction $50 value All participants are expected to participate in the Mexico Mission Auction by donating one item of $50 in value.

Applications are due to Katy in the church office by June 20 and will not be accepted without the $100 deposit. A late fee of $50 will be added on to any application received after this date.

***Please do not let the cost of the trip keep you from attending. Contact Henry if you would like

to discuss a trip scholarship. Additionally, FPCB has created a template that allows you to raise your own funds through the direct-solicitation of non-church members. If you are interested in

this, contact Noah ***

Meeting Requirements

Participants are expected to attend more than half of the meetings. The purpose of these

meetings is not only to give information about the trip but also to build a sense of community

among the participants before we go on the trip. Please see the reverse side for dates.

Trip Communication The majority of communication for the trip will be through e-mail. Please make sure to include an accurate e-mail address on your application (Please also include a parent e-mail for all minors). Make sure to check your e-mail regularly so you do not miss any important trip updates.

Secret Pals

The purpose of secret pals is to provide behind the scenes support and encouragement for another person on the Amor work trip. Who you have as your pal is secret, so don’t tell your secret pal that you have them! We ask that you be praying for your secret pal before, during, and even after the work trip.

Please complete the attached and return it with your application to the church office. You will find out who your secret pal is on the last Gearing Up Gathering. You will then prepare a goodie bag for your secret pal that you will bring with you packaged on the day we load gear, July 19. The amount you spend on the goodie bag should be no more than $15. Also, include in the buddy bag a note of encouragement and your name. If you have a favorite bible verse, consider putting it in the buddy bag to share with your secret pal. The buddy bag needs to be clearly labeled on the outside with your secret pal’s name.

The buddy bags will be handed out in Mexico sometime mid-week during our trip.

The buddy bags need to be brought with your gear to be loaded on the trucks no later than Saturday, July 19 at 10 a,m.
