    Chapter 2 Method of Testing the SWR Procedure1: Select the test index and set the initial parameters

    Select the test project.

    Select OPTfrom the main menu.

    Press B1and UP/DOWNto select the project to be test. Then press ENTERtoconfirm the selection.

    PressESCAPEto return to the main menu.

    Select the frequency range in the test.

    Select FREQfrom the main menu.The sub-menu appears.

    PressF1and enter the start frequency of the scanning with the numeric keys.

    PressF2and enter the end frequency of the scanning with the numeric keys.

    PressESCAPEto return to the main menu.

    Select the unit of measure. (This procedure can be skipped when using the default

    value.) Select OPTfrom the main menu and pressMORE.

    PressB5to select the unit of measure, and then press ENTERto confirm theselection.The default unit is METRIC.

    Chapter 2 Method of Testing the SWR

    Procedure 2: Calibrate

    This procedure must be performed before any tests. Step 1: Press START CAL to activate the calibration menu.

    The following information is displayed:

    PERFORM CALIBRATION

    CANCEL

    CAL A909-915 MHz

    CAL B: 935-960 MHz

    Step 2: Select A or B with the up/ down arrow key and ENTER.

    A and B can both be selected. You do not need to pay attention to the frequencyafter the CAL A or CAL B. The frequency is in the frequency range after thecalibration.

    The Connect OPEN, PRESS ENTERis displayed.

    Step 3: Connect the open circuit unit to the TEST PORT and press ENTER.

    The Connect SHORT, PRESS ENTERis displayed.

    Step 4: Connect the short circuit unit to the TEST PORT and press ENTER.

    The Connect LOAD, PRESS ENTERis displayed.

    Step 5: Connect the load to the TEST PORT and press ENTER.

    The system calculates according to the test result and calibrate automatically.

    Chapter 2 Method of Testing the SWR

    Procedure 3: Test the SWR.

    Step 1: Connect the device to be test with the test cable.

    The test can begin from the test of the top jumper port or the super flexible cable port.

    Step 2: The system starts the test automatically by default.

    If the system does not test automatically, you can press RUN/HOLDto start the test.

    The device tests the selected frequency range once for one press.

    Step 3: Adjust the display scale of the test result.

    You can press AUTO SCALEto make the system adjust the display scale automatically.

    You can select SCALEfrom the main menu and enter the values of the TOP, BOTTOMandLIMIT.

    Step 4: Read the data of the test maximum SWR.

    Press MKRS(marked with MAKERS) in the FREQmenu to open an MKRS.

    Select EDITand change the value of the corresponding MKRS frequency with the up/down arrow key. Then read

    the maximum SWR value in the test range.

    Press MOREin the FREQmenu and select PEAK. The MKRS skips to the frequency of the maximum SWR

    value.

    Note: If the test frequency range is larger than that needs to be test, for example, the actual test range is 900 M-1000 M

    and the range needs to be test is 935 M-960 M, you should use the maximum SWR value in the test range that needs to

    be test. You can set the first two MKRSs and marks the high and low frequency in the range that needs to be test, and

    then set the third MKRS to read the maximum SWR value in the required frequency range as the test result.

    Chapter 3 Location of the Antenna Faults When the SWR is larger than the set index (1.5 generally), the DTF function should be used to

    locate the problem.

    Procedure 1: Set the initial parameters. (Maximum distance, center frequency and cable type)

    Select DISTfrom the main menu and press DTF AID.

    Enter the value of D2(the maximum distance and it is set to the distance to the antenna

    generally), and then press ENTER.

    Enter the value of Center Freq, and then pressENTER to confirm the input.

    The value is set to the medium value of the test frequencies. Press DOWN and select the types of cables.

    The system displays the other parameters of the cable automatically.

    There are three cables:

    FSJ450B: The 1/2 inch jumper

    LDF550A: The 7/8 inch feeder

    LDF650A : The 5/4 inch feeder You should select the most widely used cable in the feeder system. The cable should be the

    feeder generally.

    You should use the 1/2 inch jumper in the following conditions:

    The distance between the small base station and the antenna is less than 10 m.

    The GPS antenna is connected to the device directly with the 1/2 inch jumper.

    Procedure 2: Calibrate. (The procedure is the same as the previous one.)

    Procedure 3: Start the DTF test.

    Step 1: The system starts the test automatically by default.

    If the system does not start the test, you can press DISTto start the test.

    Step 2: PressMKRSto open an MARKER.

    Step 3: Check the antenna feeder system according to the read distance.

    You can reselect the D1 and D2 according to the value D. For example,

    D1D1 m, D2D1 mand then test to locate the problem.

    If there is a connector, the connector may be not fastened, rough or

    watered.

    If there is an SWR peak in the non-connector place, the cable has faults,

    such as a break.

    The test frequency range should not be too large. Or else, the test accuracy may

    be affected.

    If the base station is ETS450D, you should select the S331A (test range: 25-

    3300 MHZ) instead of S330A (test range: 700-3300 MHZ).

    If the antenna feeder is too large, the requirements of the SWR are strict.

    The SWR test of the Site Master is a small signal test: A small power signal is

    sent to the antenna feeder system to test the signal echo. All the indexes arecalculated according to the transmit power and the echo power got from the

    test.

    If the antenna feeder is too long, the attenuation of the signal sent by the Site

    Master is large in the antenna system and the echo is small. Thus, the

    calculated SWR is smaller than the actual one. In the actual situation, the

    transmit power of the base station (40 W) is larger than that of the Site Master.If the SWR of the antenna system is large, the standing wave alarm occurs and

    the device even can be damaged.

    To avoid the defect of the Site Master, the index of the SWR should be strict

    when the antenna feeder is long. For example, the SWR cannot be larger than

    1.4.

    FAQs

    Question 1: The SWR of the antenna system with different distances are shown

    during the DTF operation. Can we use the DTF function to test the SWR?

    No, the SWR in the DTF test is not the actual one. The peak only means

    there may be problems in the peak. It is a bug of the Site Master software.

    Question 2: The screen does not display sometimes.

    It is not the fault of the device. The operator set the display contrast to 0that

    leads to the problem.

    Solution: Switch off, and then switch on. Do not press any keys. Press the

    up arrow key to increase the display contrast.

    Question 3: Press START CALand the calibration operation cannot be

    performed sometimes.

    Solution: PressESCAPEseveral times, and then press START CAL.

    FAQs

    Question 4: How to set the system to perform the SWR test continuously?

    Select OPTfrom the main menu.

    Press B4and select SINGLE SWP ONor SINGLE SWP OFFto start or

    end the continuous test. Then press ENTERto confirm the selection.

    Press ESCAPEto return to the main menu.

    Question 5: The test frequency range changes after entering the maximum

    distance and central frequency during the DTF test. Are there any problems?

    No, the device is designed in such a way.

    When the frequency range is increased largely during the DTF test, you

    should reset the frequency range and calibrate, and then test the SWR

    instead of changing only the frequency range, such as from 100 M-1000

    M to 890 M-960 M, and then getting the test result. Or else, the test result

    is not accurate.
