Assignment 1
• Traditionally 20% fail rate due to being out of point or not addressing the key issues
• Argumentative Essay!
• Some theorists/authors have recently suggested that traditional
organisational development (i.e., emphasising internal factors at the group and interpersonal levels and focusing on issues such as empowerment, team building, conflict management, etc.) is no longer relevant to change management, particularly given the current turbulent environment in which businesses operate.
• Critically discuss this statement, drawing on the theoretical perspectives, research evidence and business examples.

3. Is OD still relevant to today’s organizations? spend 25-35%
a. Keep the focus on Organizational Change! b. Change at the global level financial crisis, social justice & awareness, climate
change? c. Examples of OD in action during Org Change (hints: merger & acquisitions case studies
etc)

Week 6 … special week…
– No formal tutorial consultation for your assignments – I will NOT look at drafts – I will look at essay plans
– Please use this wisely
> Do NOT – come unprepared – come and ask me ‘what are we supposed to do again?’ – come unless you have confirmed timing with me prior
» I may have other students!
> I will and that’s all you’re going to get
– E-mail consultations > I prefer face to face e-mails take a long time to read & reply; and you may miss
the point. > If anything, e-mails will be replied to very briefly.

Assignment 2
• Group Presentation & Report – Week 10 or 11 – Traditionally 60% get C and below…
» Because… 1) rehashing Ross’ lecture & his slides, 2) not putting enough effort on the written report
– Prepare (30-40 minute) team presentation on an issue in the area of
organisational interventions; and
– Submit an accompanying report (1500 - 2,000 words) > due on day of presentation > Written report – NOT presentation script. > Slides alone are NOT acceptable.
