WHAT’S NEW IN BIZTALK SERVER 2006 More than 5,000 customers have experienced the value and agility that BizTalk Server
delivers. That momentum was sparked by the introduction of BizTalk Server 2004, which
revolutionized the integration industry. BizTalk Server 2006 builds on that heritage and
core architecture to provide customers with a powerful tool that uses the latest Microsoft
technologies and industry standards for automating and managing business processes. The
core release themes for the product include:
Enhanced management, setup, and deployment capabilities
BizTalk Server 2006 helps you get started faster with a simplifi ed installation wizard, a
component updater, and a one-click confi guration. These tools enable you to install and
confi gure BizTalk Server 2006 in a more straightforward and effi cient way. In addition,
BizTalk Server 2006 provides new capabilities that enable the IT administrator to be more
productive in managing and operating an enterprise deployment, such as the ability to
modify all confi guration information. BizTalk Server 2006 includes a new management
console that delivers enhanced monitoring and deployment capabilities. Included in those
capabilities is the ability for IT to package complete applications into .msi fi les by using
Microsoft Windows® Installer.
Seamless upgrade from BizTalk Server 2004
Building on these new setup and confi guration capabilities and maintaining the core
architecture of BizTalk Server 2004, BizTalk Server 2006 provides a seamless upgrade path
for current BizTalk Server 2004 customers.
Richer business user and developer experiences
BizTalk Server 2006 extends business user capabilities introduced in BizTalk Server 2004 such
as the new Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) features that now deliver real-time support
for business activity subscriptions and alerts. In addition, the product includes out-of-the-
box customizable BAM portal capabilities built on Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 technology.
BizTalk Server 2006 also continues to deliver unparalleled developer productivity in building
and optimizing business processes with upgraded development tools such as the new Flat
File Schema Creation Wizard, a Windows SharePoint® Services adapter, and a POP3 adapter,
all tightly integrated within Visual Studio 2005 and built on the .NET Framework 2.0.
Additional support across Windows Server System
BizTalk Server 2006 delivers continued support for the Windows Server System Common
Engineering Criteria, including an x86-based 64-bit version and support for SQL Server
2005, Visual Studio 2005, and Microsoft Virtual Server 2005.
Availability
Customers can begin today with BizTalk Server 2004 for mission-critical business process
and integration solutions or employ the BizTalk Server 2006 beta if they are quickly
migrating to SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005. While installing the beta, customers
will need to deploy Visual Studio 2005 because BizTalk Server 2006 takes advantage of
the latest security, productivity, and performance improvements delivered in the .NET
Framework 2.0. The release of BizTalk Server 2006 will be made available in Q1 of 2006.
