TRANSCRIPT

  • Michael Doran

    Systems Librarian

  • Where the marked item data originates

  • If “marking” items doesn’t update Voyager, what’s the purpose?

Saves you from having to jot down notes with a pencil and paper

The “marked items” data can be leveraged for batch updating of Voyager

Can also be leveraged in the canned reports Access file

  • ShelfLister “Marked Item” values are a configuration option. They can be anything that is appropriate for the project at hand.

  • Voyager server -

    (S)FTP file from Voyager server

…using the FTP/SFTP client of your choice

    ASCII

  • A ShelfLister marked items file

    … is a pipe-delimited (“|”) flat file

  • It’s still a flat file, but now it’s in Access

  • Access makes it easier to “slice and dice” the data

  • An example…

  • You can do the equivalent of all those Access steps with

    one UNIX command…

  • What is this “Pick and Scan”

    thing?”

    It’s in the documentation

    .

  • 142 (for example) items batch updated…

  • I wanted the titles and authors and...

This table just has a bunch of ID numbers.

  • If we import the Marked Item file into the Voyager ‘reports.mdb’ canned reports Access file…

  • We can join that table with other tables in a query…

  • …to get any additional data
