Cox Communications – A little history

• Cox is privately owned and part of Cox Enterprises.• Cox has been a wireline service provider for 50+

years.• Cox operates in 16 states and serves hundreds of

communities.• Cox is the third largest traditional MSO and will

remain so after the Comcast-TWC-Charter transactions.• Cox has provided 1Gig service to business customers

since 2007.

Cox and the Gig Life

• In 2014, Cox doubled the speeds of our most popular Internet service tiers.

• May 2014 – Cox announced its commitment to bring the choice of 1Gig Internet service to all of our residential customers by the end of 2016.

• Cox intends to democratize 1Gig Internet speed, and not limit it to only high income areas.

• G1GABLAST is launched in Phoenix and will be launched in Las Vegas, Orange County, CA, and Omaha in 2015.

• The majority of network expansions (new construction) will utilize FTTH architecture.

• The Cox network will be comprised of a variety of different technologies: DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1, and PON (Passive Optical Network), giving customers many service options.

Cutting red tape

• DO streamline permitting procedures, open construction windows wider, consider “blanket” permits where appropriate.

• DO allow all providers access to new procedures, personnel and payment structures.

• DO require accurate identification on trucks and crews.

• DON’T cut corners on public safety and protections for existing networks.

Where to cut next…

• Accessing 1Gig service wirelessly is the next wave.• Customers want access everywhere.• Wireless technology is becoming smaller, lower

powered and less intrusive.• Local wireless facilities siting ordinances were written

for large, powerful, unsightly technology.• Imposing the same permitting requirements on a Wi-

Fi device as on a cellular tower slows the deployment.
