His scene study class will focus on the actor’s ability to reveal himself from within the roles he creates. The class will also concentrate on the ability to interpret the playwright’s text in order to create character, define relationships, understand situations,

and find the story that is at the heart of the scene.

Jim encourages his actors to devise a uniquely personal way of working, by presenting them with a variety of approaches to the craft. The aim of the class is not to indoctrinate an actor into a specific way of working but to train the actor to work truthfully and stylistically, however he finds his way to that goal.

THE ART OF FILM – Alister SandersonIn 6 sessions, increase your awareness of how acting in film is inter-related with camera-work, sound-work, editing, lighting, sets and locations, props, costume and make-up, digital effects, and with narrative and non- narrative material. This class invites to think about how an actor today can draw on and contribute to the 120- year tradition of cinematic performance, and how the art of film shapes the way we live our lives. One feature film will be screened in its entirety over the course of 6 weeks, along with short films and sequences, and will explore how a Hollywood-style does its work.

CLOWNClown is a unique idiotic character within each of us who wants to play, tease and entertain. Clown is a born anarchist who longs for harmony. And yet, clown often limits oneself from this form of expression. Why? Because of all of those intrinsic rules of behavior created by organized societies! Often, we prevent ourselves from discovering our inner clown as performers and actors. The class is structured around games and group improvisations. We give ourselves a new name, build a costume and work with the smallest mask - the red nose. We learn about the pleasure to disobey and the joy of laughing at ourselves and others.

ACTING IN THE SHORT FILM - Christophe AverlanA 12 day immersion for actors looking to break into the film and television market. For 12 days actors will experience every essential aspect of acting on film using state of the art equipment. Beginning with a casting day led by Gabrielle Berberich, actors will record their screen tests and gain valuable feedback on their audition technique. Actors will then move to on-camera monologue work culminating in a five day film shoot, written for the actors and shot on set. Leading this workshop is French film director and playwright Christophe Averlan, whose work has been seen in dozens of European Film Festivals. Each actor will receive a copy of the professionally-shot, fully-edited short film, and Michael Howard Studios will host a film screening for the actors and invited guests.
