Michael jackson- Analyzing Digipak and Advert

We have some fantastic news to share with you from Sony Music re. An incredible, brand new DVD collection – “Michael Jackson’s Vision”

3 DVDs in a deluxe digipak with a beautiful hard-bound 60 page booklet and stunning lenticular cover, plus a clear o-card featuring an iconic gold silhouette. See images attached.42 era-defining short films (restored and remastered); 10 previously unavailable on DVD, 1 never before seen. The first time all of Michael Jackson’s solo short films are in one package.

Genre

The album cover of Michael Jackson’s digipak does represent a particular genre of music “Michael Jacksons” that being pop the “former king of pop”

I think the genre is established basically through the actual album cover of the digipak that being of 15 pictures captured from Michael Jacksons music videos all of which he captured doing some of his most famous dance moves I think the importance of this is that it not only shouts out to the audience that this is a tribute pack to the man who not only

revolutionised music but also dance, and recognising the man who has paved the way for every other artist on both his genre and out .so I think these images are an accurate choice for commending this man for his work, I also think also the gold silhouette of Michael Jackson in the making of one of his many video in which he is doing a move most would view as impossible tops of the cover as I think it is also a representation of the contribution he made to music as a whole, the things he achieved through and with music is something that most current artist on not only music but every other aspect of music could only dream of achieving in which most unfortunately wouldn’t even come close

I think the generic elements of the digipak such as the cover and the 3 CD’s will appeal to the audience because they will be basically getting a sum up of his outstanding career in one pack, realistically who wouldn’t that appeal to.

Narrative

As far as the narrative construct of the digipak I would say that it does on the way that the cover is constructed with sum of his and the most iconic music videos of all time and showing, what he was all about through the images which captured him doing some of his most famous dance moves

I don’t know if I can say that there are different narratives that the readers can construct but I can say that as well as using images I think the basic background of gold with black writing sum up his career in a similar way as the images, in the fact that the colour gold be used to represent his royalty to the genre with him being the king of pop and gold being not only being but representing richness and that’s what he brought to the game so there is no other colour that would be “worthy”,i think the black bold font is fitting on top of the gold cover not only for the contrast but also because it the most darkest colour you can get it is virtually impossible to get a colour darker than that hence being the most noticeable colour standing out from the furthest something which Michael Jackson did from the start to end of his career.

I wouldn’t say the pack exactly contributes to a cultural/social narrative though some could interpret the dominant use of the colours white gold and black could be a representation of the different fans in the fact that the colours represent the different fans who if they did not have anything at all in common they had the love of his music in common.

Representation

Throughout his long and successful career and also his string of successful album I would say Michael Jackson represented “himself “exactly at the

time of the capturing of the albums each being a close-up to the furthest of a medium shot, which some could interpret it as him wanting fans to be able to see who he is exactly, even throughout the colour change he still kept the same concept as well as through the facial structure changing

I would really say that there were any specific social or cultural concepts highlighted apart from the fact that even through all the changes he endured such as facial and skin he stilled showed the exact representation of himself on the album covers as he was on real life, as far as age I wouldn’t say that there are any specific representations apart from that the each album cover naturally matured in age

I also wouldn’t say that there are any specific representations constructed in the album

Audience

I would say the text is very formal as in font so I would say the audience would definitely feel that it is a declaration of it being the end , I don’t know if I could say that it appeals to a specific audience I could say the younger audience would definitely be overly impressed or intrigued by this font I could also say this is definitely not attracting for any one in particular but I could say that his true fans and people who have followed him throughout his career would defiantly be attracted. The text in particular being Michael Jacksons vision printed on the front of the cover, the 3 CD’s and the tribute magazine I think would definitely be the main attraction as the audience or consumers of the digipak will feel that they will be definitely getting the full package as the title of Michael Jacksons vision gives the impression of seeing his whole career through his eyes mean what more can a fan want than being able to see it exactly through the eyes of the man himself

Media language

I would say the setting of the mise-en-scene isn’t exactly specific worth it being a compilation of images from his most famous videos, but I think that what could be a main attraction as the audience feel like they will being seeing the best of the best from his career, so i guess that help with promotion
