Economic Argument

NOT SCRUBBED: Performs non-sterile setup of room.

SCRUBBED: Helps to drape robot. Places sharps in

special sterile bins that robot can handle. Draws up

local in syringe and puts syringe into bin.

Fig.3. The robot enables parallel performance of non-operative tasks while keeping nursing personnel requirements at two FTE’s. This produces

the increased workflow of the parallel processing OR without the additional personnel costs.

NOT SCRUBBED: Performs traditional circulator functions,

including re-supply of robot as required.

TEAM

PenelopeCS instrument flow. Instruments are loaded into the system via the conveyor belt (1). An

overhead digital camera (2) acquires and identifies the instrument. The robotic arm picks the instrument

up off the conveyor (3) and places it in the instrument closer (4). It is then moved to the instrument

storage area (5) and the arm returns to retrieve the next instrument. When completed stringers are

needed, the system picks the instruments on the count sheet from the storage area and builds the

stringers (6).

R O B O T I C S Y S T E M S & T E C H N O L O G I E S , I N C .Product Benefits

• Labor Savings

– For every 2,200 Instruments Processed by PenelopeCS = 1 FTE

– Average mid-size hospital has ~4000 Instruments.

– Labor Saving ROI Less Than 12 Months

• Increased Efficiency

– Enables Just in Time Inventory and Bar-coding of Instruments

– Reduced Inventory Requirements

TEAM

17AATS 20124/28/2012

• Superior Instrument Care and Inventory Control

– Enables Better Attention to delicate Instrumentation Care (Less Breakage)

– Better Maintenance.

• Better Inspection

– Enforced Inspection of Instruments reduces Bio-Burden Risks which can cause HAI

• Reduced Error Rate

– Eliminate Counting Errors which can lead to Costly Delays in the OR ($64 per minute)

• Space Saving Inventory Storage
