~ Ouranos was the greek god of the sky (father sky)

~ He was son and husband of Gaia,Mother Earth

~ Gaia and Ouranos were the parents of the first generation titans and most of the other Greek gods

The Start of it All In 1718 William Herschel named the planet Georgium Sidus in honor of King George lll. In 1850 the common name Uranus was proposed by a german astronomer Johann Elert Bode.

~ It is the seventh planet from the sun but the third largest planet in the solar system

~ 51,118 km across in diameter, which is about 4 times bigger than earth

Satellites Voyager 2 space flew by Uranus in january 24, 1986.

The voyager 2 has been the only satellite to go to Uranus since 1986.

UMBRIEL ~Umbriel was discovered on 24 October 1851 by English astronomer William Lassell.Umbriel is the darkest of Uranus' largest moons.

~It reflects only 16 percent of the light that strikes its surface

~take about 4.12 days to orbit around Uranus.

~Umbriel is named for a malevolent spirit in English poet Alexander Pope's 18th century poem "Rape of the Lock."

MIRANDA ~Discovered in telescopic photos of the Uranian system by Gerard P. Kuiper on 16 February 1948. miranda is only one seventh the size of the earth's moon. ~It’s giant fault canyons are as much as 12 times as deep as the Grand Canyon.~ Was named for the daughter of Prospero in William Shakespeare's play, "The Tempest."

TITANIA ~discovered on 11 January 1787 by British astronomer William Herschel, titaina is the largest moon in the solar system of uranus. ~Titania is a grey color which is the typical color of most of Uranus moons.~it has a system of fault valley with some reaching 1000 miles long.~Titania is named for the queen of the fairies in William Shakespeare's 16th century play "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

ARIEL

Ariel was discovered 24 October 1851 by William Lassell, one of 19th century England's Grand Amateur astronomers. With the lack of craters, Ariel appears to be one of Uranus’ youngest moons. Out of all Uranus’ five major moons Ariel is the Brightest.When you observe Aerial between yourself and the sun, it appears substantially brighter.This moon was named Ariel by Sir John Herschel (son of Uranus discoverer Sir William Herschel) at the request of the moon's discoverer, William Lassell.
