    THE DIFFERENT EARTHMOVER TYRE FAMILIESThere are 3 major earthmover tyre families categorised by the aspect ratio H/S:(The ratio between the sidewall height and the tyre width).

    100 series or standard tyre (narrow base)The H/Saspect ratio is approximately equal to 1The section width, given in inches, is to 2 decimal places.e.g.:18.00 R 33

    80 series or wide baseThe H/Saspect ratio is approximately equal to 0.80

    The section width, given in inches, is a whole numberfollowed by a fraction.e.g.:20.5 R 25or the section width is given in inches followed by the number 80e.g.:59/80 R 63

    Low profile tyres (H/S < 80)

    70 seriesThe H/Saspect ratio is approximately equal to 0.70

    DIFFERENT TREAD COMPOUNDS

    Type A4: Particularly resistant to cuts, tread tearing and abrasion on very rough surfaces.

    Type A: Particularly resistant to cuts, tread tearing and abrasion at average speeds which are higher than those for A4 (above).

    Type B4: Compromise solution between abrasion resistance and average speed on rough surfaces.(available in sizes 49 inch rim diameter and above)

    Type B: Higher resistance to internal heat generation on surfaces which are not particularly rough.

    Type C4: For running on long cycles at high speeds on well maintained roads.

    Type C: Very high resistance to high average speeds on long cycles run on well maintained roads..

    The SPEED SYMBOL indicates the maximum speed at which the tyre can carry a load corresponding to its load index,under specified conditions.

    It is imperative:- do not exceed the permited max. speed of the tyre- do not exceed the permited max. distances in one hour indicated in the tables

    of tyre's characteristic- At the time of fitting , it is vital that the various markings be checked , in order to be certain that the tyre is suitablefor operation at the maximum allowed vehicle speed and load.

    Some tyres bear a load index and a speed symbol.

    TYRE CONSTRUCTION10

    BIAS OR DIAGONAL PLY CONSTRUCTION

    The casingis made up of severalcriss-crossed plies.

    The crownis not stabilized.

    The crown and sidewalls areformed by the same ply structure.The tread is affected by flexingof the sidewalls, resulting in,- deformation of the tyre contact

    area on the ground- movement in the tread contact

    area.

    The casing plies tend to scissorin relation to each other.

    Disadvantages:- accelerated wear.- less grip.- increased fuel consumption.

    THE MICHELIN X RADIAL TECHNIQUE

    The casing has onlyone radial

    ply.

    The crownis stabilized byseveral plies.

    The sidewall and tread function sepa-rately.The tread is unaffected by the flexing ofthe sidewalls, so there is:- less deformation of the tyre contact

    area on the ground.- less movement in tread contact area.- no movement between casing plies.

    Advantages:- longer tyre life.- better traction on all types

    of surface.- lower fuel consumption due to

    lower rolling resistance.- improved comfort.- increased resistance

    to punctures / flats.- increased resistance to heating

    EXPLANATION OF THE DIFFERENT MEASUREMENTS

    e= maximum overall section width

    D= external tyre diameter (R x 2)

    = nominal bead seat diameter or rim diameter

    S= section width on measuring rim (this rim is indicated in bold)

    E= minimum dual spacing (on measuring rim)

    H= section height

    R= free radius (2R = D)

    R= static laden radius*CdR= rolling circumference*

    Tread depth.= tyre tread depth in mm (rubber depth that is possible to use without risk).

    Cap= Interior capacity of the tyre (to calculate the nitrogen quantity when inflated with nitrogen, or the liquid quantity when filled)

    * The values of R and rolling circumference given for our tyres on the characteristic pages apply to nominal conditions of loadand pressure (corresponding to the gray square of the load data).

    How to read the load / pressure tableRemember: the correct pressure of the machine (on a site and for a job) depends on the working conditions and use.

    In order to obtain the optimal performance from tyres, it is advised that:- the machine be weighed under working loads- the maximum distance allowed per hour for the tyre is not exceeded

    Maximum distance limitThis is the result of the combination load /pressure which allows an economic use of the tyre.There is: - a limit on the load to obtain the best wear performance - a limit on the pressure to obtain the best damage resistance (cuts, shocks, wear, etc)

    The economic load and pressure limits are shown highlighted in the load/pressure table.Generally, these are the nominal conditions for the tyre as defined in International Standards.

    It is possible to use our tyres outside of the economic limits,so long as the maximum values indicated in the load/pressure tables are not exceeded.

    However, using the tyres beyond their economic load values is likely to result in reduction of the lifeand the damage resistance of the tyre.

    EXPLANATION OF THE DIFFERENT USES

    Loaders:

    Front Tipping This table is used when the only information available is that of the operating weight and tipping load of the loader.Front Laden This table is used in priority. The loads come from the weighing of the loader or the axle weight given by the manufacturer.

    The load/pressure table, using 10 km/h loaders" as a reference, is given in international standards

    Rear Unladen This table is used when the weight of the rear axle of the unladen loader is known or when the rear axle weight is

    given by the manufacturer.

    Compactor:

    10 and 15 km/h These tables are given according to the maximum work speeds of the compactors. In all cases, the indications and the

    instructions provided by the manufacturer must be applied (Table indicating the pressure according to the work to

    be carried out).

    Underground mining machines:All axles Loaders: use the tables. The loads come from the weighing of the loader or the axle weight given by the manufacturer.

    The load/pressure table, using 10 km/h loaders" as a reference, is given in international standards.

    Transport machines: For underground transport machines, the table corresponds to a maximum speed of 10 km/h.

    For different speeds, the load capacity is adapted by applying the coefficients defined by the international standards

    (see table TRA 2007 4-25 below).

    10 km/h This table is used when the machine has been weighed, front axle bucket full.

    20, 30 This table is used when the machine has been weighed, rear axle empty according to the maximum speedand 40 km/h of the machine.

    Excavators:

    10, 20, 30 This table is used when the axle weight has been determined (by weighing or with the manufacturer's data).

    Graders:

    All axles This table is used when the axle weight has been determined (by weighing or with the manufacturer's data).

    Transport (rigid dump trucks, trucks, ), Articulated dump trucks, Scrapers:

    Standard This table is used when the work is carried out at load speeds up to 50 km/h.

    This is standardised under the name Transport 50 km/h.

    For different speeds, the load capacity will be adapted by applying the coefficients

    defined by the international standards. (see table ETRTO 2008 E.7 below). The greyed box indicates the nominal load of the tire.

    70 km/h This table is used for the vehicles at speeds of up to 70 km/h (tyres of index speed E).

    Crane (Highway service):

    speed reference 70 km/h, Speed Symbol E or speed reference 80 km/h, Speed Symbol F.

    All earthmover tyres fitted on vehicles with a predominant road usage (all terrain vehicles, cranes, intervention

    vehicles ) that are driven on roads for long distances at the speed of reference and under constant load.

    The Loads / Speeds / Pressures table makes it possible to adapt the pressure to the wanted load according to

    principal speeds of use.

    Desert conditions 80 km/h:

    Depending on whether the vehicle is fitted simple or twin, the corresponding load table will be adopted.

    Road (Road in single / Road in twin): These pressures are to be applied when the vehicle runs on good roads

    (This means asphalt or compacted surfaces). For these conditions the pressures have been calculated for

    a maximum speed of 80 km/h (50 mph).

    Track (Track in single / Track in twin): These pressures are recommended for driving on bad roads, washboard

    (corrugated) and gravel or desert surfaces. For these conditions the pressures have been calculated for a maximum

    speed of 65 km/h (40 mph).

    Sand (Sand in single / sand in twin): These pressures are used to allow the vehicle to cross without difficultythe difficult areas where the problem of adherence or depression can be important. To avoid premature depletion

    of the kilometric performance, the speed must be limited to 20 km/h (12,5 mph)

    After "sand" use, the pressure must be readjusted for subsequent conditions of use (road or track).
