Factors when Considering BPOS
Constraint Description
Active Directory Synchronization
• Though Microsoft provides a directory synchronization tool passwords are not synchronized to the BPOS server
• Users have to manually change passwords in multiple places• There are some third party tools that claim to do password synchronization with BPOS• Most support calls are due to password reset issues• There is no true Single Sign-on available in the current release.
SharePointCustomization Capabilities
• In the standard version, no custom code can be written for BPOS• The dedicated version has the possibility to support custom code, but it needs to go through a
detailed review process with Microsoft• Microsoft will need specifications sent to them and they will run code analysis on the solution to
ensure compatibility with their environment
SharePoint AnonymousAccess and Forms
Authentication
• Anonymous access is not supported at this time• Forms authentication is not supported at this time
SharePoint Browser based Forms and
Workflows
• InfoPath forms are not supported in the Standard version of BPOS• Out-of-the-box SharePoint workflows for approval, document retention etc. are unavailable in
the standard version
SharePoint Search• People Search is unavailable in the Standard version of BPOS• Cross site collection search is unavailable in the standard version of BPOS
