Introduction Microsoft Stream is a new business video service. Users can securely manage and share videos

uploaded to Stream with colleagues. The official announcement states, “this service is builds upon the

learnings and success from Office 365 Video”, which is the current video platform for Office 365

subscribers. The official announcement goes further explaining that in the future these two platforms

will merge making Stream the de facto video experience for Office 365.

While Stream is in preview, Office 365 Video will not face any changes. We can expect to have more

information on future enhancements when it is closer to the general availability of the service.

In its current context, it offers following features and capabilities.

2. Click Sign in. (figure 2)

3. Enter your Office 365 username and password, then click Sign in. (figure 3)

4. You will be presented with the sign up screen with your Office 365 user ID picked up. Click

Sign up. (figure 4)

5. Since your ID is already associated with Office 365, Stream will recognize you. Click Sign in.

6. Once you signed in, click Start. (figure 6)

7. If you prefer, you can invite your co-workers by entering their email address and clicking Send

invitations. (figure 7)

8. Once the sign up process is completed, you will see below screen. (figure 8)

9. Sign in again and you will be presented with below screen after a moment. Click Continue.

10. You will be presented with a greeting and now you have successfully signed up to Microsoft

Stream. (figure 10)

2. Click Sign up free. (figure 12)

3. Enter your work email address and click Submit. (figure 13)

4. You will see below screen once Stream sent you an email to the address you’ve entered.

5. In your inbox, you should see an email from Microsoft Strem as seen in below image. Click on

Yes, that’s me. (figure 15)

6. You will be taken back to Stream sign up process. Complete the form and click Start. (figure 16)

7. Once the sign up process is completed, you will see below screen. (figure 17)

8. Sign in again and you will be presented with below screen after a moment. Click Continue. (figure

9. You will be presented with a greeting and now you have successfully signed up to Microsoft

Interacting with Stream

Interacting with Homepage

1. Menu Area – This area contains the primary menu and other quick action items you have for

interactions. You have following items in the menu area. Starting from left hand top corner:

a. App Launcher – Will redirect you to your App list in Office 365, if you used an Office

365 account to sign up.

b. Browse – Will help you to browse content in your organization.

c. My content – Will help you manage your channels and videos.

d. Create content – Will help you create videos and channels.

e. Search – You can search content within your organization. You can enter # tags,

keywords in the search box to search.

f. Upload button – You can quickly upload a video by clicking the button

g. Invite coworkers – You can use this button to invite people who you work together to

sign up with Stream.

h. Help – You can access official Getting started, Community, Give feedback, Blog and

About Microsoft Stream.

i. Feedback – You can click this button to provide your feedback to product team for

further improvements of the product.

j. Profile – This will allow you to Sign out from Stream.

2. Trending videos – Videos that are trending in your organization will automatically start

displaying here.

3. Share your videos – If you do not have many videos in your organization, you will have this

area to encourage you to upload videos.

4. Learn to use Microsoft Stream – Few videos to get you started.

5. Popular Channels – In this area you will have the most popular channels for your organization.

6. Following – This area will show the list of channels you’re following and their content.

Interacting with Videos 1. Click Browse. (figure 20)

2. Click on Videos tab. (figure 21)

3. This will display the list of videos in your organization that you have access to.

4. You can use the Search for videos… box to search for videos.

5. You can use Sort by to sort the current view. You can choose from Relevance, Trending,

Publish date, Views and Likes.

6. In every video, you can see the video title, published date, publisher, description, number of

views and likes in front of the video thumbnail.

7. Clicking on a video will open the video and start playing.

8. Under the video player, you can see details of the video. (figure 22)

9. Clicking on the heart icon, you can like the video.

10. Clicking on the ellipsis will display below options. (Under edit videos, I have discussed these

2. Click Channels tab. (figure 25)

3. In here, you can see all of the channels in your organization.

4. You can use Search for channels… box to quickly find a channel.

5. You can use Sort by to sort your current view. You can choose from Relevance, Number of

followers and Number of videos.

6. In each channel, you can see the channel cover image (if there’s any), title, the owner, number

of followers, number of videos and the description.

7. You can see the channels you’re following with a label with Following label.

8. If you want to follow a channel, you can click on the Follow button.

9. Clicking on ellipsis on each channel will allow you to Edit or Delete your channels.

10. Clicking on a channel will allow you to view its videos. (figure 26)

Create Content

Upload Video 1. To upload a video, you can chose Create -> Upload a video or by using the upload button at

right hand top. (figure 27 and 28)

2. You can either drag videos to the browser or click on select files to open up classic open files

dialog box. (figure 29)

3. While the video is being uploaded, you can edit the metadata of the video. Enter a name for the

video, a description. (figure 30)

4. Edit the privacy. You can choose from My org, Custom, Only me. (figure 31)

5. Select the channel(s) to which this video belongs to. If you don’t see a relevant channel, you can

create one. (figure 32)

6. Once the video has been uploaded and processed, you can publish the video to the

organization. (figure 33)

7. You will see below screen when the video is published. (figure 34)

Create a Channel 1. Click Create -> Create a channel. (figure 35)

2. Fill the information appropriately by giving a channel name and a description. Optionally you can

click Choose who else can contribute to this channel to restrict who can add videos to the

channel. (figure 36)

Manage Content

Manage Videos

Search and Filter Videos 1. Click My content -> My videos. (figure 37)

2. All your uploads will be here. (figure 38)

3. Use the Search my uploads… to search videos you have uploaded.

4. Use Sort by to sort videos in the search results. You can choose from Relevance, Upload date,

Views and Likes.

5. Use State to filter your videos. You can choose from All, Draft and Published.

6. To further narrow down the search, you can use the Privacy settings as well. You can choose

from All, My org, Custom, and Only me.

Edit Videos 1. Click on the ellipsis next to the video you want to edit. (figure 39)

2. You will see below menu. (figure 40)

3. Clicking on Add to watchlist will add the video to your watchlist to watch the video later.

4. Clicking on Add to channel will let you add the video to one or more channel(s). (figure 41)

5. Clicking on Edit will allow you to edit the thumbnail or upload a custom image for the video,

metadata, privacy settings, channel list of the video and if you want to, you can delete the

video as well. Note: If you’re changing the privacy setting anything other than My org, your

video will be removed from all the channels it was added to. Selecting Custom will allow you

to restrict the video to users based on their Azure AD security group or by user ID. After editing

the video, you can click Apply changes to save changes or click Discard to throw away all the

changes. (figure 42)

6. Clicking on Share will allow you to obtain a direct link (figure 43) or to get an embed code

(figure 44) to embed the video (currently the videos can be viewed by authorized users only.

That means, the users have to be within your organization who have signed up with Stream.)

7. Clicking on Delete will delete the video.

Manage Channels

Search and Filter Channels 1. Click My content -> My videos. (figure 45)

2. All your channels will be here. (figure 46)

3. When you have so many channels, you will be able to search for channels using Search my

channels… search box.

4. Use Sort by to sort your search results, or the channels list. You can choose from Creation

date, Relevance, Number of followers and Number of videos.

Edit Channels 1. Click on the ellipsis in the channel you want to edit. (figure 47)

2. Select the appropriate action from the menu. (figure 48)

3. Click Edit to bring options to edit your channel. (figure 49)

4. In channel edit screen, you can edit Name, Description metadata, restrict who can contribute

to the channel as well as the list of videos belongs to the channel.

5. Clicking on the ellipsis of any video will give you two more additional options you didn’t get in

My videos. (figure 50)

6. Clicking on Use thumbnail for channel cover image will make the selected video’s thumbnail

as the channel image.

7. Clicking on Remove from channel will remove the video from the channel.
