duction systems in Luterbach, which consists of three SMT lines

(Surface Mounted technology) and various assembly, product tes-

ting, lacquering and burn-in systems.

Technical supportSpecially trained engineers at the DIGITAL-LOGIC support centre

and its German subsidiary, do advise the customer so that the right

DIGITAL-LOGIC product is used within a short time. Any required

repairs are made in a rapid and customer-friendly way.

The standard warranty period is 24 months. As well as circuit

diagrams, the support specialists also have the source code for all

of the BIOS programs that are used.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

ReliabilityThorough function and stress testing of each individual compo-

nent guarantees good reliability of more than 50,000 hours MTBF

(Mean Time Between Failures). All of the relevant measurements

are carried out and documented on our own testing and simulation

systems. The embedded computers are subjected to strict release

testing before delivery and aged in a climate chamber during con-

tinuous operation. Each product is given a test certificate.

Product service lifeAs a rule, DIGITAL-LOGIC uses components that remain available

for at least 5 years after product release. In the event of unexpected

component discontinuation, DIGITAL-LOGIC carries out a redesign

using compatible design and functionality so that the application is

hardly affected.

ISO 9001: certifiedAll process data, including date codes for the individual compo-

nents, are stored in a quality information database (QIS). All test

results, support and repair cases are registered in this database so

that every process is traceable.

Modern configurationThe MICROSPACE® PC contains a hard drive and a CD-DVD drive

as mass storage. Other external equipment (e.g. camcorder,

CD-RW, DVD-RW) can be connected via Firewire IEEE 1394. The

MICROSPACE® is fully compatible with any other Pentium® PC and

can be operated using normal commercial PC software. WIN2000/

XP is installed as standard, meaning that the computer is immedi-

ately ready for operation at the customer’s. All of the necessary

drivers for WIN NT, WIN2000 and WIN XP are supplied on a CD.

Compact and quietThese are the special characteristics of the MICROSPACE®-PC.

This dictionary-sized device is the smallest and quietest fan-less

PC that there is. Its attractive design and multitude of functions

are the distinguishing features of the powerful MICROSPACE®

PC, which is equipped with the latest power-saving components.

The MICROSPACE® PC uses powerful low-voltage Pentium® III or

Pentium®M processors and a patented passive cooling concept.

Since it does not contain a fan, no noise is generated.

Flexible positioningThe MICROSPACE® PC can be installed horizontally or vertically,

like a book. All cables are connected at the rear. The computer will

fit in anywhere and keeps the worktop free for other essentials.

The MICROSPACE® also works reliably in extremely dusty rooms,

since it does not draw in dust particles.

Universal anchoring with T-groovesThere is a T-groove along each longitudinal edge of the casing.

This allows the computer to be secured to the top or bottom of the

housing in a universal way. The M3 sliding blocks are inserted into

the T-grooves and secured with screws.

Wider the temperature rangeThe temperature range must be wider for some applications for in-

vehicle installation or external applications, for example. The fol-

lowing ordering options are available:

_ Installation of a special hard drive with an extended

temperature range (-25°C to +50°C)

_ Use of a Flash disk instead of the hard drive (-40°C to +60°C)

_ Forced cooling and performance limitation to 600MHz,

for example, increases the upper temperature range to +70°C

_ The extended temperature range is achieved without an

optical drive

Two forced cooling options are available. On the one hand, cooling

is achieved by making a connection to the air flow of the vehicle’s

air conditioning system. The second option is forced cooling from

a slowly rotating fan mounted on ball bearings. Both options are

secured on the top of the MICROSPACE® computer system using

T-grooves.

VIBRATIONThe computer systems are tested for vibration and shock resistance

in accordance with IEC68-2-6 resp. MIL-STD-810E on the vibration

test stand between 1 Hz and 1 kHz with acceleration values of up to

2G. With the MPCX47 the hard drive is mounted on special vibration

dampers so that it can also be used in vehicles.

Industrial systems are subject to different stress than desktop PC's

in an office environment. For use in an industrial environment pro-

tection classes and standards are defined that specify the environ-

mental loads that a system can be subjected to without suffering

damage with regard to contact and protection from foreign bodies/

moisture. The protection classes are defined in the IP standard,

DIN EN 60529: Housing protection classes (IP code).

The IP code consists of a two-digit number combination that indi-

cates the respective protection level, e.g. IP54. The first digit 5 spe-

cifies the protection class for contact and foreign body protection,

and second digit 4 specifies water and moisture protection.

High Speed USBDIGITAL-LOGIC products provide up to 8 USB V2.0 ports. USB V2.0

transmits at speeds of up to 480 Mbits/sec.

Digital Audio Interface As well as standard audio support, DIGITAL-LOGIC provides a di-

As well as the 32-Bit Parallel Bus, DIGITAL-LOGIC also provides

4-22 PCI Express Lanes. The customer can therefore upgrade his

embedded computer application with the latest PC power at any

time. PCI Express is a low-pin count interface with a maximum

bandwidth per pin. This results in extremely compact solutions with

maximum I/O capacity and optimised costs. Simple connection of

equipment with high bandwidth demands or extremely fast video is

guaranteed.

Serial ATA Interface Serial ATA is superior to parallel ATA with regard to performance

and speed. Transfer rates start at 150 Mbits/sec., and an increase

to 600 Mbits/sec. will be possible in future. SATA is fully protocol-

compliant and software-compliant with parallel ATA.

Intel® Pentium® M / Celeron® M / CoreTM DuoThe Intel® Pentium® M/Celeron® M processor uses a new micro-architecture in order to meet current and future embedded computer require-

ments. Ideal for use in the communication and transaction terminal areas and in industrial applications, it combines processor technology and

DIGITAL-LOGIC’s Embedded BIOS

LCD/BIOS adaptation DIGITAL-LOGIC has the source code for the Core and LCD-BIOS that

is used, meaning that customer-specific adjustments can be made

if necessary. LCD’s are adapted to the DIGITAL-LOGIC PC’s against

This totally silent DIGITAL-LOGIC computer for high performance applications

operates on the basis of the Intel® Code Duo with passive cooling.

The main focus is on the integrated double core processor (2x 1.6 GHz), the

modular memory design and the PCI Express expansion capability.

Up to 2 hard drives (each with max. 500 Gigabytes, i.e. total of 1 Terabytes) can

be connected to the MPC50 CPU via the SATA interface. Two internal PCI slots

are available for expansion. For high performance peripherals the PCI Express

bus can be connected to peripheral modules up to 7 metres away.

The main focus is on the two LAN ports, the service-friendly hard drive/Com-

The 2U computer from DIGITAL-LOGIC is typically installed in a 19" rack and is

used for communication, meteorology and testing applications. The MPCS50

operates using an Intel® Core Duo with 2x 1.6GHz. The main focus is on interrup-

Compact and quiet like the MICROSPACE®-PC, and also watertight. The MPCX47 from DIGITAL-LOGIC combines all of the characteris-

tics of the MICROSPACE®-PC and provides many additional advan-

tages and additional functionality:

IP54/IP65 watertight The housing and the connector on the rear are sprayproof. The

front controls are protected from spray water and flood water on

all sides by a watertight flap. Protection standard IP54 or IP65 is

complied with depending on the type of replicator.

GSM/GPRS mobile phone The MPCX47 can connect to the Internet using an optionally instal-

led GPRS module (900/1800/1900MHz). The bandwidth of the built-

in GPRS modem provides data transfer speeds of up to 36 kbits/sec.

Normal telephone calls can be made with the GSM option using a

headset.

Global Positioning System The MPCX47 can calculate the exact position at any time using a

built-in GPS receiver.

Universal communicationThe MPCX47 is connected to the Internet via the LAN connection,

the WLAN option or via the GPRS modem option. A built-in WLAN

is also optionally available. The system can be expanded with

USB 2.0 and Firewire IEEE1394. A CAN-bus interface can be optio-

nally integrated for use in vehicles. The CAN bus can also be used

to add additional decentralised I/O modules (digital, analogue).

Universal display outputAn analogue or LCD SVGA monitor is usually connected to the VGA

connector for providing screen displays. The MPCX47 can also ac-

IN-VEHICLE COMPUTING47/48

The user interface for all functionality in the DIGITAL-LOGIC vehicle computer MPCX47/48

MPCXHMI is a user interface that has been specially programmed for the two

DIGITAL-LOGIC MPCX47 and MPCX48 vehicle computers with touch screen

monitors. This is based upon Microsoft Windows XP Embedded. The interface

uses large, ergonomically designed controls (buttons, rotary controls) that are

easy to operate via the touch screen while driving.

Examples of individual functions:

CD player with full operating facilities The CD player plays audio CD’s on a CD/DVD drive that is connected

to the DeltaCar PC via USB, Firewire/IEEE1394 or PCMCIA.

The controls are similar to those of the type of CD players used at

home: You can select start, stop, pause, next and previous track and

CD eject, as well you can also fast-forward and rewind a track.

TVAnalogue TV or DVB-T can be viewed via a TV tuner that is con-

nected via USB. The channel is selected using the TV tuner re-

mote control; you can switch between integrated and full screen

display.

Video-in and digital video recorder Depending on the DeltaCar PC that is used, up to four video came-

ras can be connected directly or via port replicators and viewed

“live” (3x video/composite/FBAS/1Vss + 1x S-Video). Microphones

integrated in the video sources or connected separately can be

used. WDM-compatible cameras connected via USB can be used

as an additional video source.

Cameras can be used for any purpose:

_ Colour CCD video cameras

_ Black/white CCD video cameras

_ Infrared night vision cameras

_ Infrared thermal imaging cameras

NavigationMPCXHMI uses Travelbook 4 and 6 for navigation. All of the data

that is needed for operation is stored on the internal hard drive,

meaning that CD’s do not need to be changed, even for pan-Euro-

pean navigation. The system is easy to operate via touch screen

or a connected keyboard. OEM versions with voice control can

also be used. The destinations (town/street) are specified using a

“match code” (not all characters need to be entered) of by cal-

ling up previously stored destinations. The route is displayed on a

full-scale map with a variable zoom factor. Directions are given by

means of voice output, text displays or arrow symbols.

Digital I/O and analogue out The MPCXHMI provides digital and analogue interfaces in con-

junction with the MPCX47/48. These are:

_ 8x digital inputs, optically de-coupled,

via terminals at the replicator

_ 8x digital outputs, galvanically isolated,


_ 7x analogue inputs, measuring range from 0 to 10V,


DIGITAL-LOGIC provides OEM software for these interfaces for dis-

playing and operating customer-specific applications. Alternatively,

existing customer applications can also be integrated in the opera-

ting concept, allowing you to conveniently switch between the CD

player and your own measuring application.

TelephoneThe GSM/GPRS modules that are integrated in the MPCX47/48 are

used by DeltaSoft to provide a convenient telephone facility with

comprehensive adjusting facilities. As well as manual dialling,

numbers can be retrieved from caller lists or the integrated phone

book. Outlook contacts can be transferred to the phone book.

When incoming calls arrive, the MPCXHMI automatically switches

to the telephone facility, and when the call is accepted the volume

situation is adjusted accordingly.

SMSSMS messages are created using the on-screen keyboard or an

external keyboard. Previously prepared texts can be selected from

a list. With longer texts, several SMS messages are automatically

generated; incoming and outgoing SMS messages are stored on

the internal hard drive as automatically named text files.

E-mailMicrosoft® Outlook® is used as the e-mail client by default, and

other clients can be integrated in the OEM versions. As well as

e-mails, the contact, task, calendar and synchronisation facilities

of Outlook® can also be used, of course. The Outlook® contact data

can be exported and taken over into the internal phone book. It is

advisable to operate Outlook® via an external keyboard, and the

MPCXHMI on-screen keyboard can also be used if two screens

are connected (optional).

DVD player DVD audio-visual information is provided by a DVD drive that is con-

nected to the MPCX47/48 internally or via USB. Depending on the

DeltaCar PC that is used, as well as stereo or four-channel sound

from the integrated amplifier, surround sound can also be output on

an appropriate external output device via the internal sound chip.

You can select start, stop, pause, next and previous DVD chapter,

DVD eject, and you can also fast-forward and rewind the film. The

DVD menu can also be opened. Individual tracks and chapters are

selected using the DVD menu or special buttons. The current play-

ing time and the track and chapter number of the DVD are display-

ed, and you can switch between integrated display and full-screen

display.

Video player Video files can be stored on the internal hard drive of the MPCX47/48

or external storage media such as USB sticks, hard drives or data

CD’s/DVD’s in drives connected to the MPCX47/48 via USB. Any for-

mat can be played for which a Codec is available, such as WMV,

DivX and VCD.

As well as start, stop, pause, next item and previous item, the video

player also has a fast-forward and rewind facility. The playing time

of the current item is displayed, and you can switch between inte-

grated, automatically scaled display and full-screen display.

plays using computers. Displays and computers are subjected to considerable
