Mid-America January Event is a Winner!!!

. The club event for January was really a treat. Although snow and power outages prevented some from attending, those that braved the aftermath of the snow storm were rewarded with food, drink and old cars – all in heated environs.

Bob Ehinger graciously opened his museum for a step back in time. Along with two dozen or so autos from 1911 to the 50’s, some displaying AACA awards, there were walls 10 ft high with hundreds of vintage oil cans lined on shelves in alphabetical order. There were gas pumps from companies many of which we had never heard. Numerous advertising and bright neon signs hang from the ceiling with more still in their original crates.

We next went to the Lifted Spirits Distillery. The building has been transformed from a 1900’s stable for the horses and wagons that delivered bread from the company that was across the street.

We were given a detailed tutorial beginning with the grain, numerous separating processes, the vats for aging and the bottling.

Sample tasting of their many offerings was offered then to the bar area where we had additional sampling of the “product” – after all it was cold outside.

The third leg of the KC downtown event was a caravan led by Jim Edwards to Pizza by the Slice, but no one had a slice. Excellent whole pizzas were ordered from a diverse selection and baked in an artist’s custom mosaic oven.

Although the turnout was smaller than planned, everyone had a great time getting to know each other better. Kids, Grandkids, hometowns and employment histories were all explored as we learned more about each other over pizza. Thanks to Jack Boyle for “scouting” and organizing this snowy adventure. Terrence and Diane Nygaard 1929 Ford Model A 1949 Chevrolet Truck 4400 1957 Harley Davidson Sportster 1974 Bultaco Alpina Motorcycle

Here's a fun one. Last summer Roscoe kept passing by a wonderful old Chevy flatbed truck that sud-denly appeared in a drive up the block. Many attempts to find someone home proved futile until he found a young man who informed him that the truck belonged to his roommate's father. Fast forward 6 months and now Roscoe spots a gentleman and wife coming up same drive who appear to be likely sus-pects to be the roommate's dad--Batturn back to the truck occupied by the very pleasant Terri & Diane Nygaard, who had just sent paperwork the day before to join national AACA, not knowing a local group existed. They were delighted to find us--can you imagine? Welcome Terrence and Diane! Ron Portland 1955 Ford Thunderbird Convertible 1991 Jaguar XJ4 Sovereign 2001 Ford Thunderbird

Martie and Jon have known Ron for many years. Ron has a beautiful 1955 which he purchased in 1964, as the second owner. His 55 was one of the first 1,000 manufactured and is a beauty. Ron has shown his cars around town. Ron volunteered for 10 years, working with Marshall Miller, at the Art of the Car Concours Show. Ron is also a member of Classic Thunderbirds Club International and Vintage Thunderbird Club International. Ron has his eye on a new Tesla. I am sure we will all want to see this high tech car. Welcome ron! Tom and Romona Robson 1923 Ford 1-ton Model TT Truck 1926 Ford Model T Speedster 1926 Chevrolet Coach 1935 Bentley 3.5 Liter Saloon 1940 Chevrolet 4-door Sedan

Are there any strangers in the old car hobby? Tom and Romona Robson are well known to some of us as club-mates, to others as neighbors, and to all as nice folks. Already retired, at least some time is de-voted to their truck and cars. Their yellow speedster will be in our space at World of Wheels. Welcome Tom and Romona!

Andrew and Christina Wilson 1962 Ford Thunderbird 2 door Sport Coupe

We had the pleasure of meeting Andrew and Christina at Mid-America AACA Powell Gardens Car Show. In December, Christina called Martie and said she would like to give Andrew an AACA National and Mid-America AACA membership for Christmas. Now that was really a cool idea! We are so happy to have you both in the club. Welcome Andrew and Christina!

Upcoming Events

Can Spring get here soon enough? We continue to organize our calendar for 2019 and it is proving difficult as many events and organizations are still slow to publish their plans. We don’t even have details on many suggested March activities yet. This is your club so your opinion is important in identifying events our chapter wants to sup-port and participate in. Please contact [email protected] with any suggestions or advice. Thanks, Jack
