Governor’s School Faculty Member Visits HHS Clubs

Mr. Tre Gammage from the South Carolina Governor’s School of Science and Mathematics met with Misters in Action and Kappa League members Wednesday, November 18th. Mr. Gammage used a parable to teach the young men the concept of compound interest. He also encouraged the members of the group to set goals and establish concrete steps that would lead to accomplishing their goals. Misters in Action and the Kappa League are mentoring programs aimed at providing knowledge, skills and experiences that assist students’ transition from adolescence to manhood. Both programs are open to any male student at HHS.

National Honor Society Meeting Change

The next NHS meeting has been changed to Monday, December 7th, after school in the Media Center. There are several service projects posted that need immediate attention. Members are encouraged to check the board and attend the December 7th meeting.

National Honor Society Plans Christmas Service Project

The National Honor Society will be collecting for a much-overlooked group of students this Christmas. These students are former foster care students who have graduated from high school and who are currently in college or technical school. These “children” are still the responsibility of the state; however, since they are legally adults, they no longer have foster parents and/or foster homes. These students are often overlooked at Christmas time. All members of the National Honor Society are asked to contribute to providing gifts for these students. All unwrapped items should be turned in to Mrs. Tyner no later than Monday, December 14th. The following items are suggested: perfume/cologne gift set, razor/shaving gift set, shower gel/bath gift set, toiletry travel bag, cosmetic bags, fast food gift cards, other gift cards, flash drive sticks, school supplies, nice razors, deodorant, scarves, beanie hats, socks, gloves, foot soles/odor eaters, elastic pony tail holders/head bands, blow dryer/straightener, toothbrushes/toothpaste, pens.
