    25 to 27 Spirit Week

    Dear Parents:

This week has been an eye-opening, mind-broadening experience for the Middle Schoolstudents. As the children return from their Classroom Without Walls (CWW) trips, we hope thememories will live on and motivate the students to think more carefully about how they cancontribute to the community. Our students have a wealth of talents and energy to share, andwe encourage them to commit to sharing their time with others in need. We thank all theteachers for their dedication and efforts to provide a range of enriching experiences for thestudents. It was a week well spent! Please take some time to engage your child and discussways that your child can build on the experience. Its important that the learning does not endwith the conclusion of the CWW week but that the spirit of service continues to be nurtured.

Middle School course registration for school year 2013-2014 will take place the week of March3. Two new course offerings, Dance Remix and Robotics, is being made available to Grades7 and 8. Dance Revolution offers students the chance to explore their movement potential anddevelop spatial awareness. Throughout the semester, different dance forms, such as modern, jazz and hip hop,and the foundations of choreography will be explored. Above all, this courseis designed to give students the confidence to move forward into ISMs already thriving Danceprogram at HS level and to inspire them to experiment with different avenues of movementexpression. For this reason, the course is suitable for both experienced and beginner dancers. As part of this program, the students are also afforded the opportunity to share, celebrate andshowcase their talent through participation in school activities and dance recitals.

For parents of grade 8 students A High School Course Selection Meeting is scheduled forTuesday, February 19 from 5:30 6:30 P.M. in the Little Theater. Please attend so that youcan hear more about high school and what lies ahead for your child.

Looking aheadOn Thursday, March 7 students will be released early at 12:00 noon, and wewill have an afternoon of Student-Led Conferences, which is a change in our conferenceformat for second semester. The student-led conference is an opportunity for students toshare their learning with their parents and teachers and the goals of a student-led conferenceinclude the following:

To encourage students to accept responsibility for their learning and progress. To help students recognize and take ownership for the things that interfered with their

    learning success.

To teach students the process of self-evaluation.

To facilitate the development of students oral communication skills and self-confidence.

To enhance communication between student and parents.

On that afternoon you will accompany your child to each class for approximately ten minutesand have the opportunity to discuss samples of their work.

For student-led conferences, parents will not need to schedule appointments. Please note thatif both parents are unable to attend the student-led conference, your child is expected to gohome at dismissal and not remain on campus. We will provide more detailed information inthe coming weeks including questions you can ask your child and the schedule for theafternoon. We look forward to implementing this conference format and supporting your

conversations with your child about his/her learning.

Reminderthere will be no classes on February 25 and 26. Classes resume on February 27.

    Have a fabulous weekend!
