To the parents/guardians of «First_Name» «Last_Name», We would also like to wish everyone observing Ramadan, a joyous celebration. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. There is also a verse in the Quran that prescribes fasting for all Muslims who are mature and healthy enough to fast for the full day. Muslims fast as an act of worship, a chance to get closer to God and a way to become more compassionate to those in need. Eid el-Fitur (Feast of the Breaking the Fast) is the holiday that marks the breaking of the fast for Muslims at the end of Ramadan. The celebration lasts three days during which families and friends get together to celebrate with good food and give to charity. During Ramadan, people of the Muslim faith wake up well before dawn to eat the first meal of the day, which lasts until sunset. This means eating lots of high-protein foods and drinking as much water as possible right up until dawn, after which you can't eat or drink anything until sunset. With the May long weekend upon us, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable lead in to summer 2018. As we turn the corner and round into the home stretch of the 2017-2018 school year, we would like to highlight a few of the exciting events coming up at MCI in late May and June. Starting off with the MCI 25th Reunion on the 25th and 26th of May, we also have the Grade 9 EQAO Math Assessments taking place on the 12th and 13th of June right before Final Exams begin on the 20th of June. As you will see later on in the E-Bulletin in the Guidance update, preparing early for Finals will help alleviate stress and anxiety at a very busy time! Finally, MCI’s 2018 Graduation will take place on Thursday, June 28th. We are looking forward to an action packed final 6 weeks of school! Sincerely,
A. Daniel, A. Gheewala, S. Maharaj, G. Tsigaridis

Feedback on Mindful Approaches to Mental Health @ MCI
Based on a collection of feedback from both staff and students, we revamped Mindful Mondays at MCI starting in February of 2018 so that there was more flexibility, choice, and student accountability. Here is a summary of the changes:
- Mindful Approaches to Mental Health were to be done by the teacher and/or student ambassadors in homeroom classes; - Announcements on Mondays were just be a reminder, but the exercises were to be decided upon and executed by each class individually - choice if there was a better day; and - Exercises offered a bigger range of activities that included but also goes went beyond just breathing and focusing/concentration.
We would like to collect feedback from students to help us assess how the new approach is working. An email was sent earlier this week to all student GAPPS accounts and we would also request that parents/guardians encourage their child/children to complete the survey. Students can access the survey at the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/zdypWe9nywHQhDwL2

EXAM PREPARATION Believe it or not, but final exams start in just under 5 weeks. Now is the time to start thinking about preparing
for those final exams. Start by planning for your final exams. The people from Bright Hub Education valuable
tips:
1. Make a Schedule
Make a schedule that makes sense, and stick to it. Start your studying well in advance of exams...like
almost 5 weeks! Mark down the dates of your exams and estimate how much time you will need for each one. If
you have an exam that covers six chapters of your textbook and you need an hour per chapter, that’s at least 6
hours of studying for that subject.
2. Leave the Best for Last
If you are going to study two subjects in a night, leave your best subject until the end. That way you’ll be
focusing on your harder subject while your mind is at its best.
3. Make a Sample Final Exam
If you have extra time after you’ve gone through your material (and you will with your great schedule
and 5 weeks to study), make a sample final. Think about the type of questions your teacher might ask, as well as
the topics your teacher might think are most important. If your exam covers the full semester of work, include
questions from previous tests.
In future E-Bulletins, we’ll look into study methods and how to manage the exam itself...and the dreaded night
before.
EQAO’s NEW STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL SEEKING REPRESENTATIVES The Education Quality and Accountability Office is seeking representatives for its new Student Advisory
Council. The Student Advisory Committee will be a unique way for students to share their ideas and

representing the diversity of the province. Students must be in grades 7-12 and have written at least one
EQAO assessment to participate.

must also be created to support your application. Deadline to apply is May 31, 2018.
