Welcome everyone today, especially our VPs and opponents Market Rasen & Louth RUFC. As you can see, we have had a very busy summer unveiling our latest temporary clubhouse, thanks again to Jason Harvey and his team. Lee, our head coach, has a new much

improved and bigger nest from which to video the games, thanks to XL Scaffolding. Norman Coles is back as our head groundsman, and Ady Woolley with his team, are organising the VP lunches. We have many new sponsors, who we will introduce in the next few weeks and have retained all of our existing ones, thanks to Emma and her team. Most of all we still have Suzanne, who produces our match programme and the online weekly newsletter, and putting our brilliant photographer Mick Sutterby into the mix, we have a team 2

nd to none.

Every club should have a playing social team and so we are pleased today to unveil Bretton Lions RUFC who are playing today at Huntingdon. They will be under our banner until such time we can register them as a club in their own right. So if you’re between the age of 17-45, live locally, if you want to learn to play the game, or used to play and want to restart, now is the time. The new scrummaging laws are proving to be a major topic of controversy and conversation, see what you think today and let’s watch the Lions ROAR. Andy

Ady’s Pride …of VP’s

Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome to The Lion’s Den for our first home fixture of the season and our first VP lunch. Today Simon and his staff from Bretton Caterers will be looking after us so enjoy the table service to the full. We now have 32 paid up members as Vice Presidents with another dozen or so having told me they wish to join. I’m hoping for a good turn out today and hopefully when other folk in and around the club have seen what we can do, then they will want to enjoy a pre match meal and the friendship that goes with it. If you would like to join and enjoy the benefits that go with it please contact me. Good luck to the team for today and COME ON YOU LIONS! Ady.

Bugbrooke –v- Lions - and so it all starts! Bugbrooke away was the Lions first outing of the season. Having given National League 3’s Syston a good run for their money the previous weekend, it was important that the Lions kept the momentum going. The first half was won by Bugbrooke, scoring first through a missed tackle out wide, to let Bugbrooke’s Outside Centre through to score. 15 minutes into the match the Lions registered their first score. Good interplay between Marcisauskas, Rossouw and Chris Humphrey created space for Paul Humphrey to finish the score from 15 meters out between the posts. Jaco Steenberg added the extras. Bugbrooke hit back with 2 scores from driving mauls before half time, which they used to great effect throughout. Just short of half time the Lions started to gain momentum. From an attacking line out 5 meters out from the opposition’s try line, the ball was caught by Raimondas Zokas, who raced 5 meters over the try line to score the try untouched. Half time score Bugbrooke 17 – 12 Peterborough Lions Lions took this momentum into the second half, registering 2 early scores through Rossouw and Marcisauskas. The latter score from first phase possession, following an incisive slicing run through the Bugbrooke Midfield by Marcisauskas. The Lions forwards were starting to give their backs clean front foot ball, as Bugbrooke couldn’t live with their opponents pace and expansive style of play. 4 further Peterborough Lions scores were registered by 17 year old Wing Toby Hewitt, returnee Francois Wiese, Marcisauskas and Steenberg, with Steenberg finishing with 5 out of 8 at goal. Final Score - Bugbrooke 24 – 50 Peterborough Lions

Slowly without much effort, unless rugby is involved, and even then it’s pretty slow. Captains Comments

Good afternoon and welcome to the Lion’s Den for the start of another new and exciting season of Midlands Division 1 East rugby. Following our narrow title loss at the very death against Bedford Athletic last season, the vast majority of our squad remains from last season, with some

new and exciting re-enforcements arriving. This promises to be another exciting season at the Den.

We wish to welcome our opponents Market Rasen and Louth to the Den today, for what we know will be a tough and physical encounter. Both sides had a first weekend victory and are looking to preserve their 100% record at the start of the season. I’m sure that Market Rasen and Louth will be looking for some redemption for the heavy loss in the same fixture in the penultimate game of last season.

Humpo.

Nick Wildon - Commercial Manager Welcome to our first home fixture of this season, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you all. I have joined the Lions Management Team during the summer because of a love if the game and also a great belief in what is currently going on and is still to come to the Den. My main responsibility is to drive forward the brand 'Lions' by creating a 'same massage' approach to everything we do from playing activities through to business facilities and use. Not only do we need to improve information with in the club, but we need to build a stronger identity and presence in the local and wider community. Initially this will be through our web site, social media and contact with the Press and Radio to get a more regular voice to heard. If you haven't already looked and joined, we can be found on: Facebook - Peterborough Lions RFC Twitter - @pborolionsrfc On the web - www.pitchero.com/clubs/peterboroughlionsrfc/ Live updates during the match on Peterborough FM radio 87.7FM Here's to the 1st XV achieving their ambition of promotion to the Nationals and the further development of our other teams as well as a strong social team.
