A New WorldMother’s Family:In 1970, when my mother was 2 years old, her and her family moved to America. She had been born in the capital of the Philippines, Manila, as did the rest of her family. Unlike many of my friend’s families, my mother’s family was the first of their ancestors to move the America. My grandparents decided to take their family to America because they wanted a better life for their family. And their dreams came true. They now have a wonderful family and none of it would have started if they never moved to America.

Father’s Family:In the late 1800s, during the Irish Potato Famine, my great, great grandfather came to America. Unlike my mother’s story of why they came to America, my great, great grandfather’s story is very different. One night, after supposedly drinking a lot, my great, great grandfather was crossing the bridge when he got in a fight with a man who was also crossing. The men got in a fight, but the drinking was too much for the other man, who died on the spot. My great, great grandfather then fled the country and went to Canada. Then a few years later, he moved to America.

Family Health HistoryAfter asking my mom about

her family and my dad’s family’s health histories, I learned that I come from a

very healthy family! The only problems my mom told me

about was that my grandpa, the one I interviewed, has diabetes. I also remember

that my mom was diagnosed with diabetes when she was pregnant with my brother, but it went away after he

was born. In order to prevent getting diabetes, I should eat healthy and exercise more to

stay fit and healthy.

I believe that I study a sufficient

amount of time. Some nights I study more than

others because I might have a lot of homework, or maybe a test the next day. It just depends on the day. I think this amount of time reflects the amount I learn. I learn a lot and do well on tests, which means that when I do study a lot. I study well and stay concentrated.

What I think:STUDYING

Page 15: Midterm Portfolio

As I compare my chart to the amount I sleep I need, I learned that I sleep practically the exact amount of time needed.Even though I get the right amount of sleep during the week, when I wake up I still feel extremely tired. That’s why I wish I could get more sleep and that’s why some days I sleep more than others. I go to bed depending on how tired I am. If I’m really sore, I go to bed pretty early, but if I have a lot of energy I go to be later. I think this is the same for most people my age.

What I Think:SLEEPING

Page 16: Midterm Portfolio

I believe that I

don’t watch more television then I should. I

believe that I watch the perfect amount. During the

week days, I don’t watch too much television because I’m more

focused on school work or things on my computer. The only time I do watch television is for a little bit in the morning and more at night. But once the weekend comes, depending on what’s going on, I watch more television. Television can be nice to watch, but when I watch it too much it starts to get boring. Also, watching too much it extremely bad health because you’re not being active.

What I think: TELEVISION

Page 17: Midterm Portfolio

I know that a LOT of peopleare practically incapable of beingsomewhere without there phone and honestly, I used to be one. But lately I haven’t been obsessed with it. I mainly use my phone to just talk to peopleabout either school or other stuff, but notconsistently. I think I use my phone for the right amount of time. I love my phone and have to have it with me a lot, I’m not obsessed with it.

What I think:PHONE

Page 18: Midterm Portfolio

I honestly believe

that I use the computer WAY more than I

should. Honestly, I'm a little computer nerd haha,

just kidding, but I do use the computer a lot. I don't even do a lot of stuff on it, just random little junk things But when I do work on the computer, I think I do it really well. When I write stories or essays on the computer, for some reason I'm more creative.

PetsI don’t own any pets because my sister

and dad are allergic, but if I could I would love to own:

My favorite vacation so far would have to be when I went to Hawaii with my family (again) at the end of the summer of 2009. We go every year to Hawaii, but I had the best time last year because my aunt finally got married and the wedding was on the beach. It was different from all the other times I’ve gone so it made the trip special. Oh, and it was also fun because we were there for two weeks. How can someone not like being in paradise for two weeks?!

Health Triangle

Physical— 80%• I play soccer• I am a fast sprinter• I go to the gym• I like to swim

Mental/Emotional—90%• I have many good friends• I have a stable family• I am close to my family• I don’t get in many fights

Social—88% • I have many friends• I get along with people• I don’t make enemies• I am a good friend

My health triangle is balanced because I have a good life. I live in a stable environment with nice people. I am surrounded by kind friends and family who are fun to be around and easy to get along with. I also stay fit and I’m always happy to be with friends and family.

If you have one weakness, I can affect the other two areas.

Ex. 1) If you are not fit and healthy, so your physical section is low, it can affect how people think of you and how social you are (social section) and how you thing of yourself (mental/emotional section)Ex. 2) If you don’t think good things about yourself and you always think you are a bad person (mental/emotional) you probably will become very active, trying to make yourself skinnier or make yourself look better and it can make you either more or less social, depending on how obsessive you get with making yourself look good.Ex. 3) If you withdraw yourself from society (social) and stay away from other people, you probably wont think of yourself as a “good-looking” person, so then your mental/emotional section will be low as well. Also, you probably won’t go out and stay healthy as much, lowering your physical section

Timeline

Page 27: Midterm Portfolio

This picture was taken on my very first trip to Hawaii in June of 2002. My family and I went to the island of Kauai. I don’t remember

much, but I look like I was having fun next to this tiki

This picture was taken in August of 2003. It’s

just a random picture of me and my sister, Grace.

You must be thinking that we look a LOT alike, but we don’t really do.

Page 28: Midterm Portfolio

On May 15, 2004 my mom’s brother, Manuel, got married.

My other girl cousins and I were all flower girls and we wore little tiaras . It was a lot of fun and a cool thing to

experience.

This picture was from my dad’s first cousin’s son’s wedding in December of 2005. My sister and I weren’t allowed to go though

Page 29: Midterm Portfolio

This picture was taken on Mammoth Mountain in February of 2005. My

family goes skiing every year and we decided to go

to Mammoth in the picture. It was pretty cool!

This picture was taken at the end of March in 2005.

My sister and I did this combined birthday at

SeaWorld where we swam with the dolphins. It was

so much fun! But the water was really cold…

Page 30: Midterm Portfolio

This picture was taken on the first day

of school in 2005. So exciting to be

going back to school!

This picture was taken during a

Halloween parade at my elementary

school. I think I was a spider witch

thing…not too sure.

Page 31: Midterm Portfolio

On February 18, 2007, my family and I went to Whistler, Canada for a ski vacation. This is a picture of me and my little brother in his cute little snow suit

This picture was taken on December 25, 2007. My sister and I are sitting on are staircase taking our annual, fancy Christmas picture

Page 32: Midterm Portfolio

This picture was taken on February 23, 2009. For my sister’s and my birthday we each went to Disneyland with friends. This picture is when we were standing in line for a ride. Can’t remember which on, but it was so much fun!

This picture was taken on June 11, 2009 during my 8th grade graduation. I was so glad to leave there and come to Westview!

Page 33: Midterm Portfolio

This picture was taken on August 1, 2009. My family was in Hawaii for our annual vacation, but this year, my aunt got married! So this picture was from her wedding.

On September 7, 2009, my little brother had this open house thing for his preschool and my mom brought her camera to

take pictures. He’s a funny little guy

Page 34: Midterm Portfolio

This picture was taken in front of my house on October 24 , 2009 (Homecoming).I have to give credits to my aunt for my hair.

On November 7, 2009, my family and I went to Los Angeles to see UCLA play Stanford. We go every year to watch them play. We’re big fans

Page 35: Midterm Portfolio

The next four pictures were taken on November 26, 2009. My family celebrated Thanksgiving at my aunt’s house and her brother is a photographer. So we had a mini photo shoot.

My cousins are so weird!

Rainbow VeinsBy: Owl City

High rise, beat of the avenueBright eyes and subtle variations of blueEverywhere is balanced there like a rainbow above youStreet lights glisten on the boulevardAnd cold nights make staying alert so hardFor heaven's sake, keep me awake so I won't be caught off guardClearly I am a passerby but I'll find a place to stayDear pacific day, won't you take me away? Small town hearts of the New YearBrought down by gravity, crystal clearCity fog and brave dialogue converge on the frontierMake haste, I feel your heartbeatWith new taste for speed, out on the streetFind a road to a humble abode where both of our routes meetThe silver sound is all around and the colors fall like snowThe feeling of letting go, I guess we'll never know

Cheer up and dry your damp eyes and tell me when it rainsAnd I'll blend up that rainbow above you and shoot it through your veinsCause your heart has a lack of color and we should have knownThat we'd grow up sooner or later cause we wasted all our free time alone

Your nerves gather with the altitudeExhale the stress so you don't come ungluedSomewhere there is a happy affair, a ghost of a good moodWide eyed, panic on the getawayThe high tide could take me so far awayVCR's and motorcars unite on the Seventh DayA popular gauge will measure the rage of the new Post-Modern AgeCause somewhere along the line all the decades align

We were the crashing whitecapsOn the oceanAnd what lovely seaside holiday, awayA palm tree and Christmas lightsMy emotionStruck a sparkling tone like a xylophoneAs we spent the day alone

Cheer up and dry your damp eyes and tell me when it rainsAnd I'll blend up that rainbow above you and shoot it through your veinsCause your heart has a lack of color and we should've knownThat we'd grow up sooner or later cause we wasted all our free time alone

I chose this song because when I see a rainbow , it makes me happy and I feel that I am always happy. I think that the idea of a rainbow appearing after the rain shows that when I become upset I’m never upset for too long, like a rainbow after the rain. The rain has to end at one point and when it does, the world is happy with it’s rainbow.

*Note: the song will keep playing when you change the slide

Self PortraitI drew this picture last term while taking Drawing and Painting 1-2.

Obviously I am a horrible drawer, but I learned a lot from the class. And it was fun to take.

Page 41: Midterm Portfolio

Connor

For this part, most people probably chose a parent or someone older than them, but I don’t think only older people can influence your life. For me, my little brother, Connor made a positive impact in my life. Ever since he was born, I have become more patient, responsible, and caring. He has made me a lot more mature. He has taught me what it’s like to have children and how they are a big responsibility, but totally worth it in the end. I love him with all my heart and I’m totally glad that he was born.

Page 42: Midterm Portfolio

LetterDear Connor, You can’t read this right now, but I would like to tell you how much you have made my life better. With you around I have matured a lot more and become to realize who I am. Without you being here, I don’t know where I would be right now. I’m glad you’re here. I love you!Love,Teetee (Katie)^^ That’s his nickname for me

Page 43: Midterm Portfolio

The FutureIn three years I’ll be around the age of 18, so I will be a senior and probably have a job at a restaurant or a store, with a small income

In five years, I’ll be 20 and hopefully going to UCLA. I will hopefully have a better job working for a business with a boyfriend.

In 10 years I’ll be around the age of 25 and out of college and a newly wed, living here in San Diego. I am not sure about work yet because I don’t know what I want to be yet.

Page 44: Midterm Portfolio

Accomplishment

If I could accomplish one thing in my

entire life, I would have to say that is would be awesome

to own my own graphic design

company

Page 45: Midterm Portfolio

Media Awareness

I honestly think that the media does influence me a little, but not enough to take over my life. Clothing wise, I think the media does influence what I wear because when I see models wearing these cute clothes, I want the clothes and their bodies, but in the end, when I shop, I end up choosing clothes with my own sense of style. As for activities and music, I don't think the media influences those choices because I like to do things that I like and listen to music that I like.
