devotes 100% of our time and money to literary arts programming

How we accomplish our mission

• Provide a Professional Library for Writers


• Offer workshops in many writing genres for all ages


• Offer open readings at least monthly


• Host local writing groups


• Host book signings for local authors


• Host nationally known authors


• Host the David R. Collins Writers’ Conference


• Offer the Young Emerging Writers Summer Internship Program


• Support and sponsor the Quad Cities Book Fair


• Host the David R. Collins Children’s Literature Festival


• MWC Press publishes at least four publications per year


Offer national and regional competitive opportunities

• Mississippi Valley Poetry Contest

• Mississippi Valley Poetry Chapbook Contest

• Great River Writers’ Retreat

• Collins Poetry Residency


• Provide a directory of literary services for our members and the community

• Spent nearly $11,000 last year to hire local artists/writers to teach and provide design services

How do we do all of this?

• Annual Funding-memberships, Birdies for Charity, Tuition, Grants, Gifts, Sponsorships

• Good fiscal practices• Volunteers! Over 4,500 hours logged last year. • MWC spends 87% of our budget on our literary arts

programs and services and 13% on fundraising and administrative fees.

• Endowment Fund • Use local vendors whenever possible
