Installation
28
11. Make the plumbingconnectionsAn air gap is built into the water inletsystem to prevent potable water frommixing with waste water.
The dishwasher can heat its own waterto the temperatures required by thewash program. This allows the option ofconnecting the machine to either a hotor cold water source.
^ For lowest energy consumptionconnect the dishwasher to a coldwater source.
^ For fastest possible wash times, withslightly higher energy consumption, connect the dishwasher to a hotwater source.
Hot water supply specifications:
Recommended temperature:120 °F (49 °C), max 140 °F (60 °C)
Water pressure:
Must be between 5 - 145 psi(0.3 -10 bar).If the water pressure is too low, the"Intake/Drain" or "Intake" indicator mayflash (see Operating Instructions/"Frequently asked questions").If the water pressure is too high, apressure reducer must be installed.
New plumbing:
The water inlet hose comes equippedwith a 3/4" female hose threadconnector. This can be directlyconnected to a shut off valve with 3/4"MHT (male hose thread ends).
Preferred Installation:
The hose assembly should be installedvertically so the hose exits from thebottom of the valve box (not as shown).
If this is not possible, it can be installedhorizontally, provided the hose exitremains beneath the main body of thevalve box (see illustration). The valvebox should also be installed so that it isat least 10" (24 cm) above the floor (orbase of the cabinet), so that the excesscoiled hose will remain lower than thevalve box at all points.
Installation
29
Existing plumbing:
If the standard 3/8" copper plumbing fora dishwasher already exists with acompression fitting and valve aspictured:
^ Cut the 3/8" copper tubing after thevalve.
^ Install the 3/8" compression to 3/4"MHT (Male Hose Thread) adapter(supplied with the machine), asillustrated.
^ For any other size plumbing, purchase the correct size adapterfrom a hardware store.
^ Connect the inlet hose to the existingvalve/adapter assembly.
,Do not cut the intake hose. If thehose is cut, the dishwasher will notwork. There will be a water leak andyou could be injured. If the hose istoo long, coil it neatly and place itbehind the machine.
Electrical wiring and componentsshould not come into contact withany plumbing fixtures or hoses.
Installation
30
Drainage system specifications:
The machine comes equipped with:
– A 5 ft. long (1.5 m) flexible drain hosewith an internal diameter of 7/8"(22 mm). Drain hose extensions canbe ordered from Miele’s TechnicalService Department.
– A built-in swivel connector allowingthe drain hose to be routed in anydirection.
– A built-in mechanical non-returnvalve on the discharge side toprevent waste water from flowingback into the dishwasher.
– A built-in odor trap on the dischargeside to prevent odors from enteringthe kitchen.
Maximum drain height: 39" (1 m)
Maximum drain hose length: 12 ft(3.5 m)
Do not shorten the drain hose.
Do not connect the drain hose toanything but a genuine Miele hose.Other hoses may melt or collapse.
Connect the supplied drain hose to thedrain pipe of the kitchen sink either:
– above the P trap using the clampprovided, or
– to the dishwasher connector of thegarbage disposal.
When connecting the drain hose tothe garbage disposal, make sure toremove the knockout from theconnection nipple. (See the disposalmanufacturer’s instructions for thisprocedure.)
Installation
31
Venting the drainage system
If the dishwasher drain hose isconnected to a floor drain or to adrain pipe that is less than 8" (20 cm)above the floor, the drain must bevented. Otherwise the water inside thedishwasher may siphon out during thewash program.
To vent the drain:
^ Open the dishwasher door andremove the lower basket.
^ Cut off the vent cap located at theright rear of the triple filter system, asillustrated.
Additional note
Since all Miele dishwashers areequipped with an odor trap and non-return valve, the drain hose can beconnected directly to the drain pipe asillustrated.
If plumbing codes require an externalair gap on the discharge side of thedishwasher, the following requirementsmust be met:
– No part of the drain hose should behigher than 39" (1 m).
– If installed horizontally, the drainhose can be up to 12 ft (3.5 m) long.If the drain hose is angled upwardsin any way, it cannot be longer than5 ft (1.5 m).
– The drain connection should bemade as close as possible to thedishwasher.
– The internal diameter (7/8" or 22 mm)of the drain hose should not bereduced at any point.
Installation

14. Install the toekick
For installations using a continuoustoekick or a cabinet matching toekick
Before installing the toekick, measurements must be taken to ensurethat the toekick will not interfere with thecomplete opening of the dishwasher
door.
The door panel overhang (P), andtoekick depth of recess (R), determinethe maximum dishwasher toekickheight (H).
If (H) is equal to or less than the toekickheight of the adjoining cabinets, nointerference will exist, provided that (R)is at least 3/4" (19 mm).
If the door panel hits the toekick whenthe dishwasher door is opened, thetoekick must be cut shorter or recesseddeeper.
Note:If a decorative or flush mount toekick isdesired, and (R) is less than 3/4"(19 mm), other modifications, such asbeveling the top rear edge of thetoekick, may be necessary.
It is extremely important that thetoekick is removable in case serviceis needed.
