SECTION 5 – ABOUT THE PROJECT AND JUSTIFICATION
Details of the proposed project and what benefits will this project bring for participants, organisation, group or wider community?
Middleton Band is a registered charity and is a self-funded organisation. In the last two years we have worked hard to get the band noticed. We have replaced our worn uniforms for more up to date, noticeable and smart garments. This has helped to improve the image of the band and promote Middleton in and around the surrounding areas. In 2013 the band set out its first 5 year road map to help build and sustain the band for the foreseeable future. The roadmap has been a successful tool and in 2017 we applied for and achieved charitable status, we were also successful in the launch of our training band, which offers free professional tuition and free instrument hire to youth in and around the area. We have recognised the importance of our youth to the continuing success of the band and are investing a lot of time and resources into developing them. So far in 2018 the band have continued to follow the road map and have already booked several important concerts over this year and 2019. In January we promoted the principal cornet of the youth band into the senior band (aged just 13) this is testament to our resolve in developing our younger players. In February we took part in the North West Regional Championships and competed against 20 other bands in the 2nd section. Middleton Band walked away from that contest with first prize and are now the North West 2nd Section Champions. This also means that we have qualified to represent Middleton and the North West at the National Championships in September.. The aim of this application is to support the band in raising the considerable funds required to enable the band to attend the National Finals in Cheltenham. We are proud to have this opportunity to represent Middleton at the National finals.
