Phase I:
Architura has completed historic renovations and extensive design work to refurbish the
entire exterior, stone corridors, lighting, landscaping and entrances. This design of the
public gallery lobby and interior corridors posed unique challenges to restore and match
the colors of the walls, ceilings, cornices and friezes on the interior to its original historic
look.
Phase II:
Architura is monitoring the design and construction administration of Schmidt and

Damar Services, Camby, IN
Architura is proud to assist Damar in our “full service” architectural and engineering
design and construction administration of its beautiful campus carefully developed in
a surrounding wooded area to provide a safe and comfortable setting that inspires staff
and residence alike to “value dreams and encourage success”. The 14 building, 50 acre
residential facility for the treatment of developmentally challenged children is a product
of Architura’s long term relationship with Damar Services.
Planning for the fi rst major expansion of Damar’s campus began in 1997 by adding
3 major buildings to expand their client’s services to society. The creation of Damar
Services buildings, master plan and campus exemplifi es a specialty child care design
for the treatment of emotionally, mentally and developmentally challenged children,
including secure care facilities. The organized campus plan features a perimeter vehicle
circulation “ring road” around a totally pedestrian campus. This design of the campus
plan and buildings contribute signifi cantly to the overall wellbeing of the residents and
staff . It is being constructed in several major phases expecting to near completion in
2008.

Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN
Projects for patient wings and MRI and CT scan treatment rooms.
Architura’s Partner/Principal, Michael Conly acted as project architect and manager for
several projects at Methodist hospital including:
• Renovation of patient wing for surgery beds in the old section of Methodist
hospital. Careful coordination with facilities staff , engineers and very tight spaces
was required during design and construction.
• Design of the plans for one of the fi rst area MRI suites was carefully assembled
to eliminate all ferrous metals and plan for patient comfort in this challenging
testing atmosphere.
• The completion of the design for a CT scanner was a project that required intense
coordination with the technical team from the GE scanner machine to make
certain that all space requirements for its installation and isolated power, sound
control and environmental controls were as perfect as possible. Because the CT
scan room was located in the heart of the older part of the hospital the need to
run wiring circuits for hundreds of feet were often the case due to limited access
to utilities.
• The completion of these projects required careful coordination and complete
communication with all team members to follow design work though the
construction and addressed needed changes and clarifi cations along the way.

Project ManagementSection 5
A great endeavor requires the contribution and substantive eff ort of many who care deeply
for its success. They work diligently to assemble a talented and diverse team to provide a
detailed and comprehensive plan for the design, construction and implementation of your
project.
Project management involves the organization of a large fl ow of people associated by a
variety of backgrounds and areas of expertise where a common ground of ideas can fl ourish
through mutual acceptance of opinions, concepts and innovation. Through this process, a
bond is created with a strong sense of identity and professionalism.
The project manager defi nes distinct and individual functions for each member of the team
and provides a nourishing environment for the development of a unifi ed goal. Careful
attention to all team members who are involved in its production is essential, for without
their diligence, patience and sheer force of will, no success is possible.
Architura is a leader of the team that knows how to integrate and best utilize the talents
of the professionals to maximize benefi t. Our group of talented and experienced people
commit to involvement and interaction with each other at all levels and stages of the
project development.
Our project management philosophy is put into action with the clear identifi cation of which
the team members are and what their roles will be from the outset of the project to its
conclusion. We will utilize procedures that include the following.
1. Consistent written and spoken communication with team members to set
meetings and schedules is essential.
2. Checking frequently with key team members to make certain tasks are clearly
understood and any problems are resolved is critical.
3. The use of scheduling tools such as Microsoft project is helpful with large projects.
4. Scheduling weekly team meetings during critical project phases allows issues to
be resolved quickly so that the project can move forward with cooperation and
enthusiasm.
5. Using meeting notes from client meetings as well as design team meetings helps
keep participants well informed and helps them remembers task assignments and
responsibilities.
6. As project management continues into bidding and construction phase of the
work, the team members change but a consistent Architura leader will remain
the point of contact. All communication must go through one contact point at
Architura for project management to succeed.
7. Regular meetings with meeting notes, reports and project logs will be used during
the construction phase to track project success and resolve issues.
8. Celebration with the team at the conclusion of a successful project is good for team
moral.
Architura CorporationQualifi cations & Services / Architecture. Planning. Design. Creation Page 16
Client ManagementSection 6
At Architura, client management is the commitment to the owner to create an atmosphere
of confi dence through listening and involvement. Listening to your needs, listening to your
challenges and problems, listening to what is being said between the lines and listening to
what wasn’t said. Action is implemented through listening and the prompt response of the
principal in charge which eliminates the risk of miscommunication.
Involvement is the desire to satisfy the owner under all circumstances. By becoming a client
advocate the architect initiates the ability to produce a quality product. To understand
and know Purdue’s needs is essential and absolute in the quest to execute and accomplish
exemplary projects.
Procedures we use to listen and communicate include the following.
1. We believe that our direct participation in both critical meetings and informal
meetings with you and your team members is very important.
2. We create meeting notes that we share with you after every meeting to let you know
what we think we heard and let you correct oversights we have made. We use these
notes to communicate with other team members involved with the project at that
time.
3. We make ourselves available to you as much as possible by mobile, email, telephone
to keep responsive communication moving.
4. We know that your time is valuable and we know how important it is to respond
with information in a timely manner. To help facilitate responsive communication
we include several team members from our A/E group in current communications
so that if one person cannot respond another can help get the answer to you right
away.
5. We take the time to discuss our performance with you at diff erent steps during
the planning and construction phases. Just because we do not hear a negative
comments does not mean you are completely comfortable with what we are doing.
It is important that we take nothing for granted and take the time to work out even
slight issues in a timely fashion.
6. Bidding and construction phases of the project can be very stressful times for owners,
especially if a challenging contractor is involved with the project. We make certain
that the lead people involved in our design phases are also involved in construction
phases to maintain continuity of quality and provide the attention needed.
7. An architect or engineer involved in the construction phase needs to have the
experience to know when a contractor is not performing adequately. Our principal
architects each have over 20 years experience on construction projects and have
learned many of the pitfalls that can happen. We acknowledge diffi culties quickly
and work hard to resolve errors rapidly to avoid a small problem becoming a bigger
issue.
8. We stay with you until you are satisfi ed with the fi nished project.

Quality Control & Cost EstimatingSection 7
Expectations for a superior project design and completed constructed building are established
at the very outset of the project. When project budgets are set, certain parameters are given
to control the design scope and quality of the project. Intensive discussion should occur
early in the project to help establish accurate expectations for quality, scope and cost.
The best fi rst step to creating a good design that refl ects the proper function of the building
project and captures the architectural design needed to inspire visual organization and
character of the project is for us to understand your real goals and limits and take them
seriously.
We feel that the design of a project should refl ect the complete set of goals needed for your
project but allow possible project phasing in case budget challenges become a harsh reality.
It is better to design well to make the best use of space that fi ts the budget than wishfully
think that the construction bids might be good enough to get more volume from dollars
spent.
Control of project quality and cost is the result of our working with experienced professional
team members in all of the architectural and engineering design fi elds while at the same
time working with outside consults who specialize in cost estimating and construction
work. Nothing is better than sitting down with a real contractor during the early phases
of a project design to not only discuss what costs and materials may work best but to also
evaluate the means and methods of construction the can allow a better constructed project
to be built at a lower unit cost by effi ciently using trade contractors on the job.
We carefully develop our construction documents to be inclusive of the many details
that contractors need to take the mystery out of the building process. Ambiguity creates
opportunities for mistakes and change orders.
We employ the use of a Professional Cost Estimator and Quantity Surveyor who helps us
establish real cost expectations at the outset of the project during the schematic design
phase, at the completion of the design development phase and just before bidding the
project at the completion of the construction document phase.
Our specifi cations are constructed using “master spec” format to closely relate to drawing
details and make accurate references to current building standards and codes. We require
submittals and fi led samples to be carefully reviewed by our design team members before
a contractor is allowed to move forward.
The control of building quality and cost does not end until your building project is completely
constructed and the project is reviewed at the end of the warranty period.
