Miletii Mici Winery

Miletii Mici WineryPresented by: Ion CotoneSome information about Moldova.Moldova is known for its wines. For many years viticulture and winemaking in Moldova were the general occupation of the population. Evidence of this is present in historical memorials and documents, folklore, and the spoken language of Moldova, which is Romanian.

The country has a well established wine industry. It has a vineyard area of 147,000 hectares (360,000 acres), of which 102,500 ha (253,000 acres) are used for commercial production. Most of the country's wine production is made for export. Many families have their own recipes and strands of grapes that have been passed down through the generations.Miletii Mici Entrance.

Miletii Mici WineryMiletii Mici is a Moldovan wine producer located in the village with the same name (Miletii Mici), located 30 km south of Moldovas capital Chiinu. The State Enterprise Quality Wines Industrial Complex "Miletii Mici" was founded in 1969 to store, preserve and mature high-quality wines.Local ancient underground galleries reach the Chiinu borders. The limestone in the galleries maintains constant humidity (8595%) and temperature (12 C 14 C) throughout the year. The longer some specific red wines are stored in such ideal conditions, the more they improve. Some wines are cellared for several decades before being sold. The cellars extend for 200 kilometres (120 mi), of which only 55 kilometres are currently in use.In August 2005, Miletii Mici was registered in the Guinness World Records as the biggest wine collection in the world. Overall, the complex holds nearly 2 million bottles. More than 70% of the stored wines are red, 20% are white and about 10% are dessert wines. The most valuable items of this collection, worth 480 a bottle, were produced in 197374; they are now exported only to Japan. The wines stored here are made from crops of various years, beginning with 1969. Grapes include Pinot, Traminer, Muscat, Riesling, Feteasca, Dnestrovscoie, Milestscoie, Codru, Negru de Purcari, Trandafirul Moldovei, Auriu, and Cahor-Ciumai.Wines from Miletii Mici are exported to Sweden, Japan, the USA, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Poland, Greece, Germany, Denmark, Finland and China. Some interesting facts.Moldova is placed the 12th among the top world wine exporters.Vine growing and wine making in Moldova counts for almost 5,000 years. The Miletii Micis wine collection of 1.5 million bottles has been included in the Guinness World Records at the category The Largest Quality Wine Collection in the World.Moldova wine export is very important for the countrys economy as wine producing is the main industry. Almost half of the population is involved in the process of making wine and viticulture. The End.
