When discussing the Miley Cyrus video called ‘We can’t stop’ the theory by Bulmers and Katz can be related towards this, for example the use of provocative outfits are worn by both males and females, this is used for the audiences pleasure, this can come under the category of Entertainment in the gratification theory, it can also relate to the theory of the male gaze, the females characters in the video such as Miley wear minimal clothing and are used as sexual objects within the video, this is sexually pleasing towards the male audience and can increase the amount of video hits as the male audience will seek her video’s for her provocative scenes, which show Miley in minimal clothing, objectifying her making her a sexual desire.

There is also a controversial amount of viewing that are received due to the media’s impact of it being a controversial video, this is a form of entertainment as it is interesting to watch as well as a sexual pleasure for the male audience, but as well as this, the factor of education could considered with in this video, as the video may be watched to gain in sight of what the media is talking about.

Stuarts hall theory suggests that the audience has a interpreted meaning of the text (video) as well as the audience being active, meaning they have a different view and don’t just accept the media text for what is portrayed, therefore a scene such as Miley dancing provocatively is suggestive towards the audience and objectifies Miley as she is seen as a object of sexual desire, a feminist view would be that Miley is using her body to increase views and is objectifying women as she has an impact of the younger generations view by others.

Post feminist views could include the fact that she is using others to increase her likes and she knows exactly how to create a moral panic which in turn increase concert sales as well as merchandise sales which only leads to profits for the artist.

How ever she herself is using her body provocative and supporting the idea of male gaze she reflects the idea of her being an object.Polycemic scenes are used throughout the video, dancing which suggests the characters having fun can also suggest that they are under the consumption of alcohol as they are acting out of the ordinary, this reflects the age represented an portrays the young generation to fit the stereotype giving to us, which is reckless, drinking and drug taking.

The hypodermic needle theory suggests that we consume the media text and are a passive audience, the video can relate to this as it leaves little to the imagination as Miley is wearing minimal clothing making her a sexual object and a factor of the male gaze. The fact that Miley is wearing minimal clothing such as a see through swimsuit with palm tree’s to cover certain areas, means that barley anything is left to the imagination , meaning we accept the media text, consume it and are unable to have a active view on it and accept it. Because Miley has done this, she has received a huge amount of views because of the way that she dresses, controversially it has consumed the media, which is forming publicity for the artist, despite the view being negative towards the view some people, the amount hits is increased.

A post feminine view of this could include the fact that she has done it to grow her career and gain publicity but as well as it highlights the fact that she does not fit the stereotypical role model of a young female, she is the symbolic image of rebellion and does not listen to anyone, making her a dominate character as well as possibly the superior gender. However a feminist view could include the fact that she is trying to please men, which is the stereotypical view of women, with the response from the last century to revolutionise this idea to create a idea that both genders have equal power, Miley’s video fits the old fashioned stereotypical women aim of life to please men, in this case it is sexually.

In the opening scene it shows Miley wearing the colour gold jewellery including matching coloured nails, this idealises her as it gold can be represented the idea of wealth and power, by wearing this she has the view of power, perhaps used to suggest a dominant character within the video.

As well as this in the opening scene the use of product placement is used, Beats headphones are seen to be used by Miley Cyrus, this boosts publicity for Beats as Miley Cyrus fans will idealise them as they represent the fact that Miley to uses them, Judith Williamson’s theory supports the fact that if the Beats are used my Miley then it will increase sales of Beats, this is because Williamson suggests that if a product used by Miliey is bought then they are buying into the idea that they are becoming more like Miley.
