Honors Week Tributes In recognition of the 41st Kennedy Center Honors on Dec. 2, which spotlights the extraordinary careers of Cher, Philip Glass, Reba McEntire, Wayne Shorter, and the co-creators of Hamilton—Lin- Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Andy Blankenbuehler, and Alex Lacamoire—we celebrate these transformative artists during the days leading up to our cornerstone event. 30 Fri. | Hamilton Sing-Along To celebrate the co-creators of Hamilton receiving a special Kennedy Center Honors, we are hosting a sing-along of the groundbreaking musical. 1 Sat. | Chad Michaels and The Capital Hearings Michaels is the nation’s #1 Cher impersonator and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season one winner. The D.C. band brings together singers from a wide variety of musical backgrounds in tribute to Reba McEntire. 2 Sun. | Brad Linde and Brian Settles* In the Terrace Theater Linde’s tribute to Philip Glass includes performances of the composer’s works for saxophone, as well as re-imaginings of his compositions and style. Saxophonist and composer Settles pays tribute to Wayne Shorter. 3 Mon. | Eunbi Kim* In the Terrace Theater The pianist celebrates the release of her acclaimed debut album, A House of Many Rooms: New Concert Music by Fred Hersch (Albany Records). 4 Tue. | The Peace Ringers and Carol Ringers The adult and high school ensembles, respectively, from St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, Annandale, Virginia, present an English handbell concert. 5 Wed. | Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir The D.C.-area students perform a holiday concert. 6 Thu. | N’Kenge Come celebrate the holidays with Motown hits, classical music, popular jazz standards, and holiday favorites performed by the Broadway star with pianist Dr. Lester Green. Presented in collaboration with the Coalition for African Americans in Performing Arts. 7 Fri. | Betsayda Machado and Jorge Glem The “Voice of Venezuela” and cuatro/mandolin virtuoso perform Latin American music honoring the holiday traditions of aguinaldos and Parrandas. 8 Sat. | Jason Moran The Kennedy Center Artistic Director for Jazz and pianist performs and participates in an in-depth exploration of the life and work of groundbreaking jazz composer and bandleader James Reese Europe. 9 Sun. | The Bil Afrah Project The group performs one of the Middle East’s most popular albums, Ziad Rahbani’s 1975 masterpiece Bil Afrah, with Michel Merhej, the legendary percussionist who played on the original recording. 10 Mon. | Family Night: MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS!** In the Concert Hall This year marks the 45th anniversary of this holiday tradition founded by Harvey Phillips in which hundreds of local tuba, sousaphone, and euphonium players perform traditional Christmas music. 26 Wed. | Encore Chorale**In the Concert HallThe dynamic ensemble made up of musicians over the age of 55 performs crowd-pleasing holiday music.

27 Thu. | Reese Waters with opener Leon ScottThe D.C. area comedian and host of WUSA’s Get Up DC! performs a standup set.

28 Fri. | Lincoln Congregational Temple United Church of Christ Musical TributeIn this special performance arranged by Lincoln Temple Music Director Maceo Kemp, and in partnership with Sandra Butler-Truesdale and the D.C. Legendary Musicians, the Kennedy Center celebrates and recognizes the contributions of the church to the D.C. community.

29 Sat. | D.C. Legendary Musicians BandDCLM was organized to accompany the performers and vocalists in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area. Band members have performed with Elvis Presley, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, and many others.

30 Sun. | Zan McLeod and FriendsIn this Celtic holiday celebration, renowned D.C.-based Irish musician Zan McLeod is joined by Sean Heely on fiddle, Tracy Jenkins on bagpipes, and Kevin Elam on banjo, whistle, and vocals with step dancing by Joe Duffey and his District of Irish Dancers.

New Year’s Eve at the Kennedy Center

31 Mon. | Wesley Bright and the Honeytones The soul band hails from the funky rubber city of Akron, Ohio. Later in the evening, join D.C.’s own The JoGo Project as part of the Grand Foyer Party. The JoGo Project’s genre-blending ensemble is inspired by the musical stylings of Chuck Brown and continues his tradition of putting jazz standards, covers, and even movie and television themes over a Go-Go beat. The group performs on the Millennium Stage at 10 p.m., in addition to more music from Wesley Bright and the Honeytones. Admission to the 10 p.m. show is permitted with a ticket to another show in the building or a receipt from dinner inside the building. Both groups perform on the Millennium Stages leading up to the countdown and midnight balloon drop. Guests can also enjoy champagne bars and a photo booth.
