Follow up/ Homework

Write a story about something unusual that happened to you recently: a strange encounter, a exciting surprise…

L, W This could be too sensitive of a topic. This could be changed to be the best or most memorable day.

MATERIALS Eclipse Story Handout Past Progressive or Simple Past?? Complete the paragraph about a memorable event. Circle the correct verb. My most memorable experience was/was being the solar eclipse of 2009. In the summer of 2009, I

traveled/was traveling around Turkey. One day, I read/was reading the newspaper when I saw/was seeing

an article about the eclipse. I decided/was deciding to go to the town of Amasya because the article

said/was saying it was the best place to see it. I arrived/was arriving in town on the day of the eclipse. I

walked/was walking down the street when I saw/was seeing a group of people in the town square. They

waited/were waiting for the eclipse to start, and I decided/was deciding to join them. Then the eclipse

started/was starting at around 2:00 in the afternoon. The shadow of the moon moved across the sun, and the

sky started to get dark. By 3:00, the sun was completely covered. Everyone was quiet and amazed.

Unfortunately, while the eclipse happened/was happening, my cell phone ran! I was so embarrassed!
