Year 4We hope you are enjoying your time at home and that you are managing to get a little bit of work done too! To help, we have created a weekly timetable for you to do along with the Y4 children who have to come into school. Please remember that these are just suggestions, you could do a selection of the activities each day, or just a few a week. Spelling Spelling shed list 27: There are words in English that have similar spellings, root words and meanings and these are called word families. Today we will look at words with ‘sol’ and words with ‘real’ in them. https://play.edshed.com

Spelling 1:Speed sort! Ask children to very quickly divide their spelling list in to ‘sol’ words and ‘real’ words by writing them under two headings on their white boards. Give them two minutes and make sure they check their spellings are correct!

Read Chapter 7 – to the end.Write an email to Alex Rover, as Nim, to tell her all about your journey up the mountain and about your letter from Jack.

Reading Pretend you are the tourist boat’s captain and write an email describing the awful conditions you saw/smelt when passing this ‘newly discovered island.’ Make sure you describe all the tricks Nim did – but from the captain’s viewpoint!

Mindfulness

 Mindful WordThis exercise instructs you to choose a word that connects back to mindfulness and use it as an anchor to keep you present, calm, and collected. Children should find it easy to follow and helpful in maintaining their mindfulness.

1. Think of a word that seems calm or soothing to you, like “peace”, “love”, “sunlight”, or “calm.”2. Think the word to yourself, saying it silently in your own mind. Say it again as you breathe, once when you breathe in and

once when you breathe out. Stay focused on the word.3. If/when your mind begins to wander, gently bring it back to your word.4. Challenge yourself to do this for one minute. If that seems too easy, try five minutes.
