The Whiteboard feature is a convenient and easy way to help you solve Practice Exercises or let you show your work when required by your instructor. The Whiteboard tool can be used alone or you can share your work with your instructor or other students in your class when you might need help.

Your interactive Whiteboard contains access to several problem-solving tools—located in the toolbar on the right side of the screen including:

Each Practice Exercise will have its own Whiteboard and is automatically saved for when you return.

Step-By-Step Help Tool:

Shows you exactly how to solve the exercise step-by-step. You can exit at any time. If you’re accessing while working on your exercise problems, you will be given a new variation of the same exercise to try after viewing the step-by-step process. It will not count as one of your Attempts.

Video Help Tool:

Displays videos that walk you through the problem-solving process for the exercise. After viewing the video, you will be given a practice problem to try. Again, the practice problem does not count as one of your Attempts.

Read About It Tool:

Allows you to get help in a “textbook” type of format that provides the same type of step-by-step problem-solving explanations as the other help options.

Interactive Calculator Tool:

This tool is always available unless your instructor has chosen to disable it.

Note: The Step-By-Step tool will be greyed out and automatically disabled during Check Ins, Tests and Quizzes.

A graphing tool will also be available for exercises that require it.

Math Palette Tool:

This tool is one of the most critical tools on the Whiteboard and one that you’ll need to input your answers when using math expressions or equations.

Drawing Tools:

Allows you to write directly on the Whiteboard and can be used to show and share your work when solving a problem.

Eraser:

This tool erases anything you have written or drawn on the Whiteboard.

Undo:

This tool will undo the previous actions you performed. This includes drawing, erasing, moving an image or resizing an image.

Access the Math Palette tool by putting your cursor in the input box or by selecting the Math Palette icon.

When you select one of the functions, it will appear in the large input box. Then you’ll use your keyboard to enter numbers into the small blue input boxes within the math function.

When you are done, select the checkmark in the larger input box and your answer will display in the Whiteboard area.

The pencil represents free draw mode by writing on the Whiteboard with your mouse, stylus, or finger if you have a touchscreen.

The circle tool enables you to draw perfect circles on the Whiteboard.

The line tool allows you to draw perfect lines.

When you select any of these icons by clicking or tapping on them, a color picker will appear to the left. After you select a color, the icon will become that color, and anything you draw with that tool will appear in the selected color.

Clear Whiteboard:

This tool clears the entire Whiteboard so you can start from scratch. This action cannot be undone, so make sure you want to erase the entire Whiteboard before using this tool!

SHARING AND COMMUNICATING FROM YOUR WHITEBOARD

Sending an Image of Your Whiteboard:

There are also several communication options that can be utilized within the Whiteboard feature.

To send a Whiteboard message while working on a practice quiz or an exercise set within a Learning Loop, simply select the message icon located at the top of the screen and a dialog box will open.

To send a screen shot of your Whiteboard, select the contact, click on the camera icon at the bottom of the dialog box which will take a picture of your Whiteboard screen, write your message, and hit the send button.

Select the contact to whom you want to send the message, write your message in the dialog box, and hit the send button.

If any of your contacts have sent you an image of their Whiteboard, a Whiteboard icon will appear in the message. Selecting this will open the image, but you will only be able to view it, not write on it.

Do you want to study on Tuesday?

Live Share Your Whiteboard:

You can also do a live share of your Whiteboard by selecting the share Whiteboard. This function is only available when

you’re working on an exercise set within a Learning Loop.

You’ll see a message notification from the contact in the upper-right corner of your screen. You may decline or accept. If you miss the call, it will appear as a “Missed Share.” Both of you can see the Practice Exercise at the top of the screen and everything that is put on the shared Whiteboard and you may use the Whiteboard to work on the Practice Exercise together. Whoever initiates the Whiteboard share is the initial presenter.

If you want to change presenters, just select the Change Presenter icon and your contact will be able to write on your Whiteboard.

At any point, either person sharing can select the End Share icon to stop sharing the Whiteboard.

The change presenter icon will become greyed out on your screen if your contact takes control and will become active on his or her screen. You can change presenters as many times as you like during a call.
