Mineral Facts• A mineral is a naturally forming solid chemical substance created

through a biogeochemical processes, having certain characteristic chemical composition, highly ordered atomic structure, and specific physical properties.

• To be classified as a true mineral, a substance must be a solid and have a crystalline structure.

• It must also be a naturally occurring, homogeneous substance with a defined chemical composition.

• A mineral is an element or chemical compound that is normally crystalline and that has been formed as a result of geological processes.

Vitamin Facts• A vitamin is an organic compound required as a

vital nutrient in tiny amounts by an organism.

• Dietary supplements, often containing vitamins, are used to ensure that adequate amounts of nutrients are obtained on a daily basis.

• Scientific evidence supporting the benefits of some vitamin supplements is well established for certain health conditions.

Who Won?

• Each are needed to make the body function.

• Minerals like iron and potassium are needed for cellular functions.

• Vitamins are needed to help things like sight and hearing.

Vitamins• Vitamin A is needed for the health of your eyesight

• Vitamin E is an antioxidant protects against compounds called free radicals, which can injure your body's genetic material by causing illness and disease.

• vitamin k is needed for healthy bones, as well as blood clotting.

• Vitamin B helps your body creat energy from food.

Minerals • Iron: Part of the protein hemoglobin (carries

oxygen throughout body's cells)

• Copper: Necessary for the absorption and utilization of iron, supports formation of hemoglobin and several enzymes

• Chloride: Maintains fluid and electrolyte balance, aids in digestion

• Calcium: Formation of bones and teeth, supports blood clotting
