DESCRIPTION

Mines and Money launched its inaugural African mining investment event, welcoming 180 delegates to the financial centre of Mauritius for three days of exclusive meetings, deal-making and knowledge sharing on investment opportunities in Africa. Attending delegates from the mining industry met with Chinese SOEs and POEs, international fund managers, sovereign wealth funds and Asian steel producers in exclusive private meetings during the three days. Mauritius has established itself as a leading financial centre for the African continent due to its favourable investment environment, sealed with 19 investor protection treaties and 17 taxation agreements with Sub-Saharan African governments. With its positioning as the bridge for Asian investment into Africa, it provides a fitting location to host the conference and exhibition, identifying opportunities for investors in a neutral location while showcasing how Mauritius can act as a platform from which to invest efficiently in the African continent.

Mines and Money launched its inaugural African mining investment

event, welcoming 180 delegates to the financial centre of Mauritius

for three days of exclusive meetings, deal-making and knowledge-

sharing on investment opportunities in Africa.

An expected US$80 billion of foreign direct investment is expected

to enter Africa this year and this includes significant investment in the

mining sector. As Asian countries continue to secure raw materials

for ongoing urbanisation and infrastructure projects, Mines and

Money Access Africa delivered a platform to connect Asian capital

providers with executives from mining companies operating in Africa.

Attending delegates from the mining industry met with Chinese

SOEs and POEs, international fund managers, sovereign wealth

funds and Asian steel producers in exclusive private meetings

during the three days. The investor delegation included Chinalco

Resources Corporation, China Mining United Fund, China Investment

Corporation, China Africa Development Fund, Essar Steel, JSW

Steel, JOGMEC and more. Joining them were leading institutional

and private investors from Europe, South America, Australia and

North America.

Delivering analysis and discussion during the conference this week

was an impressive line-up of experts, including the Oman Investment

Fund, China Chengtong Holdings Group, CRU, China Iron & Steel

Association, Rio Tinto, Tata Steel, Imara Asset Management, AfrAsia

Bank and many more. The programme was designed to highlight

investment opportunities in the region while examining government

policies, evaluating risk and providing advice on how investors can

gain the best returns on their capital.

Mauritius has established itself as a leading financial centre for the

African continent due to its favourable investment environment, sealed

with 19 investor protection treaties and 17 taxation agreements with

Sub-Saharan African governments. With its positioning as the bridge

for Asian investment into Africa, it provides a fitting location to host

the conference and exhibition, identifying opportunities for investors

in a neutral location while showcasing how Mauritius can act as a

platform from which to invest efficiently in the African continent.

We are looking towards working with our partners to grow the event

next year and hopefully this post show report will show you why and

how Mines and Money Access Africa should be part of your event

schedule for 2015.

Dr James Marple, Private investor

“The Mines and Money event in Mauritius was simply outstanding. The location and organization of the event was extraordinary. The highly professional attendees and audience was a great way to connect and helped to strengthen my knowledge & understanding of mining and investing. As well I really enjoyed speaking at the event and exchanging new ideas about mining, investing and the markets”

Florian Grummes, Analyst, Pro Aurum KG, Midas Touch Consulting and Gold Newsletter

“I, as all the other attendees, have enjoyed the speeches and conversation, in addition to the wonderful venue.”

Fanglu Wang, Senior Managing Director, Citic Capital

“Wonderful location…..the contacts we made at this inaugural event and the information we gathered from the presentations and meetings were invaluable………we will be back for the 2015 edition”

“A highly focused African mining conference that attracts some of the highest calibre global mining and investment professionals. The conference allows for ample networking opportunities where a diverse array of business and personal connections are made. And all of this happens on the idyllic coastline of Mauritius, making it an annual event on the mining conference calendar that’s not to be missed”
