Children Mini Courses is a lifelong education program designed for adult learners. Participants must be 18 years old to enroll in a Mini Course. Enrollees who are 16 or 17 years old may participate with concurrent paid registration and attendance by a parent/legal guardian. Children under 16 years of age are only allowed to enroll in courses specifically designated for their age group and/or in courses that state “parent and child” in the course description. For liability reasons, there are no exceptions to this policy.

in a new and exciting way with living historical re-enactments and lectures on ancient history, culture, cuisine, architecture, military and religion. in Green County, sharing the words of our favorite conservationists, environmentalists and old sages. “The Hill,” as it is has been lovingly known as by three generations of the Instructor’s family, is located in the Town of Exeter, at the farm that has been in Instructor’s family off and on since 1846. Bring your favorite environmental writers’ books with which to share your favorite passages and thoughts about those passages as we watch the full moon rise over this shallow soiled hilltop where in the 1820’s the native Winnebago people once hunted, fished and made maple sugar. Astronomy – The Chicago ConnectionExplore the universe right in our own

backyard! Start with a visit to historic Yerkes Observatory, a University of Chicago facility in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, and the birthplace of modern astrophysics. Yerkes houses the largest functioning refracting telescope in the world and interesting museum exhibits in an architecturally fascinating building, ornate with celestial and other motifs. Continue your astronomical tour at our country’s first planetarium -- the Adler Planetarium on Chicago’s lakefront. The Adler features a museum with excellent exhibits about astronomy and space exploration. There will be time for a show in one of the three theaters. A Filmmaker’s Journey: Rick Ray ReflectsJoin accomplished director and cinematographer, Rick Ray, for this lunch-time presentation. He will share what motivated him to become a filmmaker to begin with and reflect on one of the highpoints of his career – a one hour, solo meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama – as part of creating his film “Ten Questions for the Dali Lama.” Finally Rick will discuss the creation of his latest film “East African Safari” which will have its world premiere in the Union Theater March 21 and 22 as a part of the Union Theater’s 51st Travel Adventure Film Series. In the film Rick offers insights into the global implications of the political and social conditions of this region while offering incredible visual imagery of East Africa. collection of historic Wisconsin pubs. Join us as we explore this resource and see how these gathering places fit into the history of southern Wisconsin. We will include Baumgartner’s, where you can test your resolve to enjoy a liver sausage and onion or limburger sandwich. We will then make stops that may even include a Rathskellar. On The Trail of Chief Black HawkJoin us for a special way to reflect on the upcoming Memorial Day. We will trace the trail of Chief Black Hawk and his people in the tragic ending to the Blackhawk War. We will visit the village of Exeter and travel to South Wayne, visiting the memorial dedicating the site where the treaty was allegedly signed (but was not) as well as the cemetery where several of the victims of the fight at Spafford Creek were laid to rest. We will visit Blackhawk Park where the pivotal Battle of Bloody Lake took place. Next we will go to Fort Hamilton in Wiota. See how you can take a rough rock such as an agate or jasper and turn it into a work of art suitable for incorporating into jewelry. The Wisconsin Union CraftshopThe Craftshop, “where art is a verb,” was the first open studio arts facility ever opened in a college union. Located on the fourth floor of Memorial Union, working media include ceramics, woodworking, traditional b&w photography, art metals, stained glass, glass fusing and more. Photo Silk Screen PrintingHere is an introduction to screen printing from photographic images. Learn the process of photo emulsion screen printing. Getting The Most From your DSLRAfter putting down the big bucks for

your first DLSR you are anxious to return to the control of your old film SLR and learn how to use the best lenses. Create an individual plan for the next 3-4 lenses you should consider buying. If you are dissatisfied with your Mini Course, let us know, and we will issue a Credit Voucher to be used towards any other Mini Course(s) in the next year. A completed Voucher Request Form must be received with 10 days of the FIRST class meeting. Voucher Request Form available on our web site or from office. Phone requests are possible.

How about Parking?Ask us! For most classes we can provide you with information on parking within two blocks of your meeting place. See our website. We also have a PARKING INFO FLYER which can be provided with your confirmation notice. Call us for more information!

What if I need a Refund?Full refund of course fees if we cancel a course for any reason. IF YOU REQUEST A REFUND, A $5.00 FEE WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR REFUND. TO RECEIVE A REFUND, NOTICE MUST BE RECEIVED BY OUR OFFICE THREE (3) BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS MEETING. No refunds for inability to attend published rain dates. Refund of Membership fees requires return of Membership Card. Refunds for fees paid by cash or check can take up to 4 weeks to process. Refunds for fees paid by credit card are credited to your account immediately. Receipts will not be mailed for credit card refunds. Please consult your monthly credit card statement for confirmation of refund.

What about Transfers and Credit Vouchers?Transfers and Credit Vouchers are possible up to the second class meeting of any course. A $5.00 FEE IS ASSESSED for transferring or requesting a Credit Voucher. No Credit Voucher will be issued after second class session for multiple session courses. One-session and individual lesson courses require three business day minimum prior to class start date for Transfer or Credit Voucher requests. Credit Vouchers are good towards any Mini Course, for one year from date of issue.

Returned ChecksA $30 fee is due on any returned check.

Where is my Course Location?Course locations are listed on your course Confirmation Notice under the course title, including directions for determining exact location if necessary. For classes in Memorial Union, Union South or “Campus Classroom,” check the “Today in the Union” listing, posted at every Union entrance or online at www.union.wisc.edu, on the day of your class. Call our office (262-3156) if you need any assistance.
