Objective

Partial restorations are the most current expression of minimally invasive indirect restorations. My idea is that you can understand and apply the different kinds of partial rigid restorations in your daily practice using conservative procedures. To that purpose, we will be analysing the entire clinical and lab process, from the diagnosis and planning to maintenance of the cemented restorations through time. Also, we will be evaluating the new technologies and materials that allow us to reduce the wear of the natural dental structure quantitatively.

Structure

This is an intensive theoretical-practical (hands on) course on KAVO simulators given by Fernando M. Soto and his staff. It will take place on three consecutive days from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm. There will be a lunch break between 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm.

Requirements

No previous knowledge is required about anterior partial restorations, as the course is set up in order to start analyzing all the theory from the ground up.

Materials and Instruments

The organization will provide you with all the necessary prosthetic components and instruments during the different procedures so as to simplify the learning process. At the same time simulators and macromodels will be given to improve communication and comprehension of what is explained theoretically.

PORCELAIN Workshop Training Program

1. Comprehensive Diagnosis

- Microbiological Analysis (periodontal desease and dental caries). Current diagnostic methods.- Physicochemical Analysis. Causes y consequences of acid erosion. Saliva test (basal and stimulated).- Biomechanical Analysis. Individual and joint alignment.- Aesthetic Analysis. Relation between teeth and soft tissue (lips).- Hands on: Intra- and extra-oral photography.

2. Comprehensive Planning

- Set up of a comprehensive treatment plan.- Basic Therapy and Aesthetic Functional Therapy. Current concepts.- Analog Planning: Semiadjustable articulator mounting. Fundamentals. Diagnostic wax up (dental proportions). Patient

communication: Analog mock up (materials and methods).- Digital Planning: Intraoral Scanner. Digital diagnostic wax up (planning software). Patient communication: Digital mock up (materials

and methods). 3D printers.- Hands on: Digital design of a clinical case.

3. Dental Preparations

- General and specific characteristics of different anterior partial preparations.- Dental preparation guides: silicone matrix and mock up. Projected anatomy.- Wear depth in terms of selected restorative material. Restorative materials.- Rotating instruments. Oscillating instruments: sonic and ultrasonic. Manual instruments.- Classification to different kinds of dental preparations as instructed. Fundamentals of prep, no prep and prep less restorations.- Immediate Dentin Sealing. Applications and Procedures.- Hands on: dental preparations on anterior pieces for diastema closure, black space closure, fracture / attrition reconstruction, erosion

/ abfraction reconstruction and preparation of pieces with total or parcial color change.

4. Impressions - Communication with laboratory

- Analog Workflow: Analysis of different impression techniques. Impression materials (advantages and disadvantages). Evaluation of different gingival retraction methods. Astringents. - Digital Workflow: Intraoral scanner (features and evolution). Imaging software.- Color and shade selection. Uses of cross polarization filters. - Photo and video features necessary for the ceramist to perform partial restorations.- Hands on: digital impressions and software learning.

5. Adhesive systems and cementing process:

- Restoration evaluation and try in before cementation.

- Functional and interproximal adjustment before cementation. Indications and contraindications.

- Adhesive systems: micromechanical adhesion + chemical adhesion.

- Analysis of different resin cements. Advantages and disadvantages.

- Cementing protocol with light cure resin.

- Occlusal harmonization. Finishing and polishing techniques. Clinical application.

Learning by Doing - Every theoretical content will be discussed and applied to simulators in order to deeply understand and integrate the different kinds of procedures covered in the intensive course.
