MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS BAPTIST STATE CONVENTION OF NORTH CAROLINA WHO WE ARE The Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSCNC) is an autonomous body of Baptist churches that work in partnership with Baptist associations and the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) in fulfilling the Great Commission in local and global missionary efforts through the Cooperative Program, the principal funding system that North Carolina Baptist churches use to support missions and ministries. The 2018 Cooperative Program missions and ministries budget for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina is $31 million. The 2017-18 SBC Cooperative Program budget is $192 million. The BSCNC is comprised of approximately 4,300 N.C. Baptist churches. The convention owns Fruitland Baptist Bible College and three conference centers: Caraway, Fort Caswell and Truett. The Biblical Recorder and the N.C. Baptist Foundation are agencies of the BSCNC. N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston- Salem and Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina are institutions of the convention. North Carolina Baptist Men, also known as Baptists on Mission, work with the BSCNC in an auxiliary relationship. Campbell, Chowan, Gardner- Webb, Mars Hill and Wingate universities have an affiliate relationship with the BSCNC. OUR STRATEGY On Jan. 1, 2014, the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina implemented a new five-year strategy, Impacting Lostness Through Disciple-Making. “In keeping with its stated mission, the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina will assist the churches in evangelizing all people groups in every ethnic and/or cultural context by developing and applying disciple-making ministry models with an Acts 1:8 focus. North Carolina Baptists commit to accomplish this by strengthening and planting churches through creating a disciple-making culture, utilizing a relationship-driven consulting model incorporating generalists and specialists, starting in the most concentrated areas of lostness located in eight population centers.” OUR VISION By God’s grace, we will become the strongest force in the history of this Convention for reaching people with the message of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Baptists contributed nearly $13 million to the International Mission Board (IMB) through LMCO. Historically, N.C. Baptists lead all state conventions in giving through the LMCO. ANNIE ARMSTRONG EASTER OFFERING (AAEO) In 2016, N.C. Baptists led all state conventions with more than $6 million contributed to the North American Mission Board (NAMB) through AAEO. COOPERATIVE PROGRAM SUPPORT (CP) The BSCNC consistently ranks in the top-10 among state conventions in missions giving through the Cooperative Program. The BSCNC sent more than $11.5 million in Cooperative Program funds to the SBC during 2016. NORTH CAROLINA MISSIONS OFFERING (NCMO) In 2016, giving to the NCMO totaled approximately $1.9 million, which supports the 17 different ministries of N.C. Baptist Men/Baptists on Mission. ADULT EVANGELISM & DISCIPLESHIP The Adult Evangelism and Discipleship Ministry engaged more than 700 people from at least 75 churches during the fall of 2017. In October, N.C. Campers on Mission served thousands of meals and distributed hundreds of hygiene bags to workers at the N.C. State Fair. Several workers made decisions to follow Jesus. In September, Carolina Faith Riders shared the gospel with hundreds of people attending Capital City Bike Fest in Raleigh. Visit: ncbaptist.org/evangelism CHILDHOOD EVANGELISM AND DISCIPLESHIP Ministry consultants held three Scorecard conferences last fall to train church leaders on the importance of creating a vision for disciple-making with families and equipping parents to disciple their children at home. More regional Scorecard events are planned for 2018. Additionally, 26 leaders from Burmese churches in the Charlotte area participated in a children’s ministry training on Sept. 30. Visit: ncbaptist.org/childhood CHURCH HEALTH & REVITALIZATION Since October 2017, at least 37 pastors and/or churches from two associations have met with directors of missions and state convention contract workers to learn more about revitalization. Along with other efforts, more than 100 churches or church leaders have had the opportunity to explore what the revitalization process might look like in their context. Visit: ncbaptist.org/revitalize CHURCH PLANTING The Church Planting Team is embarking on a special emphasis called “Vision 2020.” The goal is that 170 sending churches be identified, enlisted, trained and multiply by the year 2020. EMBRACE WOMEN’S EVANGELISM AND DISCIPLESHIPIn September 2017, Embrace led a missions team to serve with Beacon Community Church, a two-year old church plant in the Boston suburb of Belmont. Additionally, the first class of the statewide Embrace Leadership Network graduated in early October. Embrace also hosted its annual women’s retreat in late October. This year’s retreat emphasized being anchored in God’s Word and featured speaker Katie Orr. The retreat drew more than 220 women representing more than 60 N.C. Baptist churches. FAMILY EVANGELISM AND DISCIPLESHIPMore than 70 pastors and staff from 32 North Carolina

churches attended the fall Faith at Home Network Series Conference at Caraway Conference Center and Camp. Attendees learned from nationally known speakers on how to implement Faith at Home into every ministry of their churches, and many of the churches represented have taken major steps in making Faith at Home an integral part of their disciple-making ministries. GREAT COMMISSION PARTNERSHIPSIn October, nearly 400 people representing churches from across the United States attended the Reaching the Nations in North America summit at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Additionally, since the launch of the multifamily housing ministry in June 2017, 11 communities have been newly engaged by local churches throughout North Carolina.Visit: ncbaptist.org/gcp

LEADERSHIP MINISTRIESLeadership Ministries conducted a “Conflict Coaching and Mediation” training on Oct. 5-6 which focused on reconciling and resolving conflicts in a biblical way. Thirty individuals attended the training, with 27 receiving certification as facilitators. Visit: ncbaptist.org/leadership

OFFICE OF PRAYERResources from the “Broken Before the Throne” prayer gathering held during Annual Meeting are now available online. Additionally, the Office of Prayer and the N.C. Baptist Strategic Focus Team partnered with the Cape Fear network of churches, the New South River Association and the Pee Dee Association to conduct prayer bus tours last fall. SPECIAL MINISTRIESSpecial Ministries held several regional English as a second language (ESL) training events. Approximately three dozen churches took advantage of the trainings to be better equipped to make disciples among internationals using ESL.

YOUTH EVANGELISM AND DISCIPLESHIPDuring two fall retreats held at Fort Caswell, 52 people made professions of faith. Also, the theme for the 2018 summer youth weeks is “Re-Imagine” and will focus on the teachings of Jesus, particularly the parables. Last year’s summer youth week’s saw 321 salvations, more than 1,200 recommitments to walk closer with God and 103 who answered God’s call to ministry. Visit: ncbaptist.org/youth

DISCIPLE-MAKING CONFERENCE

DISCIPLE-MAKING CONFERENCE Join N.C. Baptists for the 2018 Disciple-Making Conference on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Center Grove Baptist Church in Clemmons. This year’s conference features more than 40 equipping session options that will focus on personal and practical application to make disciples in the home, church and world.

Matt Carter, pastor of preaching and vision at The Austin Stone Community Church in Austin, Texas, will serve as the keynote speaker.
