Somaliland is experiencing a severe drought affecting more than 240,000 people due to harsh climatic condi- tions triggered by El-Nino phenome- non. The communities in the most affected regions – Awdal ,Maroodi-Jeh and Gabiley are Agro-pastoralists and Pastoralist. Considered to be the food basket of the country, failure of rainfall for two consecutive (Gu) seasons has led to acute shortages of water for farming, livestock and human con- sumption. Eight people died directly because of drought in Awdal region. We are very excited to present our first newsletter to the public. Whether you are new to us or an old friend, our goal will be to keep you informed on what the govern- ment of Somaliland is up to, This monthly publication which will feature events, poli- cies, agreements and other developments, policies, of national, regional and inter- national interest. Somaliland has a diplomatic office in Dji- bouti. Ethiopia and Tur- key have already estab- lished consulates in So- maliland. Djibouti opens Diplomatic Liaison office in Somaliland

The Djibouti government

has officially opened the

first diplomatic liaison

office in Hargeisa. An

inauguration ceremony

ra in Tower Hamlet who

are the community and

driving force behind the

historic success of Tower

Hamlets recognition of

Somaliland. The delega-

tion was received at the

VIP Lounge of Egal Inter-

national Airport in Hargei-

sa.

The Foreign Minister Dr

Saad Ali Shire raised as a

matter of pressing con-

cern the need for further

support to address the

drought which Somaliland

is suffering and which has

had a devastating effect

on livestock and peoples

livelihoods.

Saad Ali Shire had a fruit-

ful meeting with the Brit-

ish Ambassador to Soma-

lia and Somaliland Ms

Harriet Mathews. The

meeting took place at the

Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

They discussed a number

of matters of mutual con-

cern including the elec-

tions and security issues.

unite on the Droughts Re-

liefs within the country.

Voter Registration process Postponed due To Drought

cern the drought which

has led to devastating

eral Michael Keating to

the Ministry of Foreign

Affairs. In a meeting

marked by warmth and

open exchange of views,

Dr. Saad Ali Shire and the

recently appointed Keat-

ing, who is undertaking his

first visit to Somaliland,

discussed a number of

The national recognition

committee appointed by

the President of the Re-

public of Somaliland had a

meeting with the National

Media. The meeting in-

tended to engage the Na-

tional Media in supporting

this campaign.

Nearly hundred institu-

tions of the private media

including TV’s and news-

papers participated in the

meeting. Minister of Foreign

Affairs Dr. Saad Ali Shire

who is at the same time

Chairman of the Committee.

working visit after he re-

ceived an invitation

from Sheikh Sabah Al-

He said that he held dis-

cussions with the Amir

and raised ways to en-

hance the bilateral ties.

turned to the country on

Friday 14/03/2016 after

completing working visit to

Kuwait that lasted for

about 4 days.The presi-

dent of the republic of

Somaliland has received

an official invitation

from Sheikh Sabah Al-

Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The president was on

board on special plane

that the Kuwaiti Amir pro-

vided to the honor the
