History of Skills Certification • The Manufacturing Institute established a consortium of partners to

align industry certification to an Advanced Manufacturing Competency Model, the result is the Skills Certification System.

• The System aligns industry competencies to manufacturing education and career pathways.

Why Certifications Matter…. • Opportunity to elevate and standardize

the programs offered by community and technical colleges across the country.

• Credentials also carry a prestige that conveys respect on both those individuals that have earned the credential and the occupations that demand it.

Benefits of CPL

Presentation Notes
Marsha CPL is proven to increase retention rates. In 2010, CAEL did a survey of over 62,000 adult students at 48 institutions who were 25 years or older and they found that students who earned college credit for what they already knew were more persistent, took more courses, and decreased time to degree completion. Finally students who earned CPL were two and a half times more likely to graduate. That number increases to 8 times more likely to graduate when looking at students of color. have better graduation rates, compared with those who do not earn CPL …have better persistence …earn their degrees in a shorter period of time
