MR. SHARK...Patrick Marleau broke the all-time record on Apr. 19, 2021 in Vegas, which was previously held by Gordie Howe, and according to NHL

Stats and Information, Marleau is the first player from the NHL, NBA, NFL or MLB to dethrone an all-time regular-season games played leader in more

than 16 years – kicker Morten Andersen was the last to do so, taking the NFL’s crown from George Blanda on Sept. 26, 2004. Howe had held the

distinction since Nov. 26, 1961 when he became the first player in NHL history to reach 1,000 games played. Currently Marleau has appeared in 1,777

    games.

JOURNEYMAN...Patrick Marleau appeared in his 23rd NHL season, tied for seventh-most in NHL history. Zdeno Chara and Joe Thornton are the only

other active players with at least 23 NHL seasons under their belt. Across his NHL career, Marleau has skated in 1,777 NHL games, most in NHL

history. He has passed G. Howe (1,767), M. Messier (1,756), J. Jagr (1,733) and R. Francis (1,731) this season. Marleau is also only one of two players

to score at least one game-winning goal against 30 of the 31 NHL clubs, having not scored against VGK (Jeff Carter, all but DET). Marleau also skated

in his 900th consecutive game on Apr. 21 to become the fourth player in history to reach the threshold.

APPLE ORCHARD...Brent Burns registered his 500th career NHL assist in the game against Los Angeles on 4/2. He became the 30th defenseman in

NHL history to reach the mark and was the 19th defenseman to achieve at least 200 goals and 500 assists. Burns is now one of three active

defensemen with at least 500 assists.

CALIFORNIA KING...The Sharks this season won all but six games against their California rivals in the Ducks and Kings (10-5-1). The Sharks

posted two shutouts against the teams and since the start of the 2015-16 season, San Jose is 33-17-7 against Los Angeles (19-6-4) and Anaheim (14-

    11-3).

LUCKY NUMBER THREE...Timo Meier registered three assists, all in the third period, to earn his first career three-assist game on 3/1/21 vs Colorado.

Meier recorded the 22nd instance (15th different player) in which a Sharks skater collected three assists in a period, and the first to do so since Logan

Couture on 11/8/14 at Dallas (5-3 W). Meier was one shy of the franchise record of four, set by Joe Thornton on 4/1/07 vs Los Angeles (6-2 W)

SLIM MARGINS, BIG RESULTS...The Sharks are currently 11-6-6 in one-goal games this season. 12 of the 23 games have extended past regulation,

with seven going into a shootout.

WILD WEST...The Sharks have currently appeared in eight shootouts, most in the league, and have a 5-3 record in the games. Sharks skaters have

converted 11 goals on 28 chances (39%) while San Jose goaltenders have stopped 71.4% of the shots they have faced (20-28). Martin Jones has

appeared in six this season thus far, earning a 5-2 record and holding a .760 SV% (19-25). Since joining the Sharks, Jones is 16-8 in shootouts with a

    .734 SV% (69-94).

MODEL OF CONSISTENCY…Since being named the team’s general manager on May 13, 2003, Doug Wilson has strategically built the San Jose

Sharks into one of the NHL’s top franchises through strong drafting, shrewd trades and timely free agent signings. In his 15 seasons in charge of the

Sharks hockey department, Wilson has guided the team to its most successful era since the franchise’s inception, capturing a Presidents’ Trophy (2009),

five Pacific Division titles, advancing to the Western Conference Final on five occasions (2004, 2010, 2011, 2016, 2019) and appearing in the Stanley

Cup Final (2016). In his tenure as general manager, San Jose co-leads NHL clubs in Stanley Cup Playoff rounds (30), tied with only Pittsburgh, and no

other franchise has more wins than the Sharks (731):

BACK-TO-BACK...TO BACK...At the start of the season, the Sharks were scheduled to face teams in a back-to-back scenario 12 times this season,

which was most among NHL teams (EDM &OTT both had 11 as next highest). Last season under Head Coach Bob Boughner, the Sharks went 4-5-3

in back-to-back games (6 sets). So far, the Sharks are 6-10-3 in a back-to-back set, where four have extended past regulation.

CLOSING TIME...Brent Burns scored his 40th career GWG on 1/24 @ MIN to become the eighth defenseman in NHL history to reach the mark. the

goal was his 27th GWG as a Shark. He is the active leader among defensemen in GWG (40), ahead of Zdeno Chara (35), Shea Weber (35) and Oliver

PROSPECT OF THE WEEK...Joel Kellman was named CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending May 2. He registered a Cuda franchise

record five points on Apr. 30, including his first AHL hat trick to help the Cuda defeat the Henderson Silver Knights 7-5. In three games for the Cuda, he

collected seven points (four goals, three assists) and two game-winning goals.
