RECAP: DH Justin Ruggiano and 1B Jesus Montero combined to hit 5 home runs and drove in 11 runs as Tacoma defeated El Paso 1on Saturday. Ruggiano (3x4, 3 R, 3 HR, 7 RBI, BB) hit a 2-out 3-run home run in the 1st inning, a 2-out, 3-run home run in the 5th inning a solo home run in the 7th inning. The 3-home run performance marks the first recorded by a Rainiers player since Jabari Blash homertimes at El Paso on June 3, 2014 . Saturday’s outing marked the second 3-homer game of Ruggiano’s career and first since May 9, 2009 Triple-A Durham. His 7 RBI now stand as a career high. Montero (3x5, 3 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI) recorded his 2nd 2-homer game of the season first since June 19 against Albuquerque. 3B Shawn O’Malley  (2x5, RBI) recorded the Rainiers only other multi-hit game. Starter StepLandazuri  (5.0,4,2,2,2,5) recorded his first win with the Rainiers this season, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits over 5.0 innings. LH Tyler Ol

(2.0,2,1,1,0,2) and RH Andrew Kittredge (2.0,1,1,1,0,0,1) combined to allow 2 runs over the final 4.0 innings to secure the win.

REHAB ASSIGNMENT: RHP Hisashi Iwakuma made his first rehab assignment with Tacoma on June 25 vs. Reno. He allowed 3 hits, wwalking 1 and striking out 4 in 4.0 scoreless innings. He previously made a rehab start with the Everett AquaSox on June 20 vs. Eugeallowing 1 run on 3 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 1 in 3.2 innings. Iwakuma was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to A21) with a right lat strain on April 24. He underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam on April 25 and the results were read bradiologist and by Seattle Mariners medical director Dr. E. Edward Khalfayan and confirmed a diagnosis of a Grade 1 strain of the ratissimus dorsi. Iwakuma, 34, is 0-1, 6.61 in 3 starts with Seattle this season (16.1 IP, 12 ER). He last pitched April 20 vs. Houston, leavinggame in the sixth inning with a 5-3 lead. His final line was 5.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO and 2 home runs allowed. For the season, heallowed 5 homers in 16.1 innings pitched. Opposing hitters boast a .308 batting average against, after Iwakuma limited hitters to a combmark of .235 in his first three seasons (2012-2014). Iwakuma finished the 2014 season 15-9, with a 3.52 earned run average. He madestarts despite missing all of April on the disabled list with a torn tendon in his right index finger.

  Since May 27, INF/OF Shawn O’Malley  has hit safely in 26 of his last last 29 games, batting .371 (43x116) with 22 runs scored

doubles, 4 triples, 3 home run, 22 RBI, 7 walks and 6 stolen base.o  During this stretch since May 27, he leads the PCL in average and hits, while ranking T1st in triples, T5th in runs scored and in RBo  During this 28 game stretch, O’Malley has raised his season average from .223 to .298.o  O’Malley has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games, batting .382 (26x68) with 14 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 11 RB

MLB FUTURES ALL-STAR GAME

Seattle Mariners minor league shortstop Ketel Marte and right-handed pitcher Edwin Diaz have been selected to represent the World teathe 17th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game to be played on Sunday, July 12th at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, as part of Allweekend.

Marte, 21, fractured his left thumb on May 31 vs. Round Rock and was placed on the Tacoma disabled list on June 1. He is currently rehabat the Peoria Sports Complex, but is expected to be ready and able to play in the Futures Game. Marte hit safely in 42 of 51 games witmulti-hit contest, batting .343 (68x198) with 30 runs scored, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 24 RBI, 18 walks and 17 stolen bases with Tacoma. At the time of his injury (through game on May 31), Marte led the PCL in average (.343/68x198), games (51) and hits (68), wranking 2nd in stolen bases (17) and at-bats (198) and 3rd in lowest TPA/SO ratio (11.05). Marte was signed as a non-drafted free ageAug. 13, 2010. Over 5 seasons in the Mariners organization, he is batting .292 (487x1670) with 271 runs scored, 66 doubles, 19 triples

Diaz, 21, is currently pitching for AA Jackson in the Southern League. In 14 starts between A Bakersfield and AA Jackson, Diaz is 4-4 w3.96 ERA (28 ER, 75.0 IP), including going 2-4 with a 4.97 ERA (21 ER, 38.0 IP) in 7 starts with the Generals. Overall he has limited opponto a .219 (59x269) average, while walking 23 and striking out 76 in 75.0 innings. Diaz was the Mariners 3rd round selection in the 2012 MFirst-Year Player Draft ouf of Caguas Military Acedemy in Puerto Rico.
