MINUTES OF THE JUNE 4, 2018 BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING NEVADA STATE RAILROAD MUSEUM CARSON CITY, NEVADA Call to order - Meeting was called to order at 6:05PM Role Call – Trustees present were Howie Foster, Rick Kohler, Barry Simcoe, Rebecca Bevans, Michael McClain, Amanda Thompson, Bill Kohler, Larry Knack and John Baumgartner. Representing the museum were, Dan Thielen, Adam Michalski and Cristol Digangi. A quorum was established. Minutes of the April 2, 2018 regular meeting was approved. Motion to approve made by Larry Knack, second by Rebecca Bevans. Correspondence – None Treasurer’s report – See attached report. Motion made to accept report by Howie Foster, seconded by Rebecca Bevans. Motion passed. Larry Knack and Dan Thielen explained the method of computing the Friends quarterly donations to the museum. -Actions of Executive Committee: None -Actions of Board None

MINUTES OF THE JUNE 4, 2018 BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING

NEVADA STATE RAILROAD MUSEUM CARSON CITY, NEVADA

Call to order - Meeting was called to order at 6:05PM

Role Call – Trustees present were Howie Foster, Rick Kohler, Barry Simcoe, Rebecca Bevans, Michael McClain, Amanda Thompson, Bill Kohler, Larry Knack and John Baumgartner. Representing the museum were, Dan Thielen, Adam Michalski and Cristol Digangi. A quorum was established.

Minutes of the April 2, 2018 regular meeting was approved. Motion to approve made by Larry Knack, second by Rebecca Bevans.

Correspondence – None

Treasurer’s report – See attached report. Motion made to accept report by Howie Foster, seconded by Rebecca Bevans. Motion passed.

Larry Knack and Dan Thielen explained the method of computing the Friends quarterly donations to the museum.

OLD BUSINESS:

-Capital Campaign Committee-

Barry Simcoe reported that the Campaign is on temporary hold. A discussion was held regarding the possibility of the Friends selling bottled water. It was decided that the Friends would undertake this with the proceeds going into the regular account.

-Audit committee-

Larry Knack reported that the auditor is ready to proceed pending the receipt of needed records.

-Bricks –

Howie Foster reported that there has been one brick sale last month. The brick orders are being sent off for engraving within the next week

-Events Committee –

Rebecca Bevans presented a summary of upcoming events scheduled for the upcoming 2018 operating season. (Attached)

Barry Simcoe commended Rebecca on the great job she has been doing.

-Election Committee-

Dave Brambly will be sending out 540 postcards requesting that members who would like to run for the board submit a resume. The amount to print and mail will be $189.

Steam Camp –

Bill Kohler reported that there are four persons currently signed up to participate.

Barry Simcoe suggested that a raffle be held for one of the spots at the rail camp. He recommended that tickets be sold at $10 each, 6 for $50 and 12 for $100. The raffle tickets will be sold through July 4. The winning ticket will be drawn at the end of the day on July 4 or July 5. The winner does not need to be present to win.

A motion was made to conduct the raffle by Rebecca Bevans, seconded by Rick Kohler. Motion passed.

-Interpretative Committee –

Loren Jahn reported that he would like to apply lettering to car 8 during the Arts and Culture steamup on June 16 and 17. Pending approval by museum staff it was decided to budget up to $100 for paint. Motion made by Howie Foster, Seconded by Rick Kohler. Motion carried.

Loren reported that the roof on car 8 needs to be completed. Ron Allen reported that with the mild temperatures the job can be completed and he will contact the roofer.

Loren would like to paint a mural to be installed in the interpretive center representing the Carson City Virginia & Truckee yard. He has the support of museum staff and is in the process of procuring funding for the project.

-Membership Committee –

See attached report.

-Motor Car Operations-

Howie Foster reported that the 401 will be out to coincide with the upcoming safety meeting for training on the updated controls.

-Steam Train Operations-

Kevin Owens requested that the Friends purchase new flags to be displayed on the locomotives during events. The flags will be period appropriate for the age of the equipment. A motion was made by Larry Knack, seconded by Howie Foster to approve $150.46 for the purchase of the flags. This amount will be deducted from the next quarterly payment to the museum. Motion passed.

-Sagebrush Headlight-

Adam Michalski reported that the next issue is being completed. Included in the issue will be the Cal Fire lumber donation, Easter weekend summary, the move of locomotives 18 and 27, Washoe County Sheriff event at the museum and the transfer of the narrow gauge car the Nevada City.

Adam requested $390 from the Friends for printing expenses, the amount to be deducted from the next monthly Friends donation to the museum. A motion was made by Rick Kohler, seconded by Rebecca Bevans. Motion passed.

-New Business-

Dan Thielen requested that the Friends commit to support 25% up to $2500 for funding of a replacement water tank. The commitment will expire on June 30, 2021. A motion was made by Larry Knack, seconded by Howie Foster. Motion passed.

GENERAL COMMENTS –

Larry Knack announced that in order to save wasting paper he would only make copies of the treasurers report for board members.
