Minutes of the Training Workshop
Friday, May 12, 2017
Introduction to Workshop
Prof. Ahmed Al-Salaymeh, the General Coordinator of METHODS Project, inaugurated the
workshop and gave a brief for the new participants about the projects aims, the objectives of the
workshop, the expected results and the next steps of the work in the project. In addition the
agenda of the workshop was displayed and discussed the agenda of the meeting and the different
activities of the workshop with the attended partners.
In his turn Dr. Wasel Ghanem, the local coordinator of METHODS project in Palestine,
welcomed the partners and gave a short introductory speech about the different modern learning
modalities that were adopted by METHODS project. Also; he highlighted the aim of the
workshop, which is to monitor the courses developing and to spread these new ideas to a larger
number of faculty members.
Also; he assured that the project is in the most critical phase, and the partners should make the
best in developing the courses.
Session 1: Quality Assurance/Impact Evaluation Session
Prof. John Traxler (UOW) presented the quality assurance tools and surveys that are being used
in METHODS, which includes the Digital Habits survey which has to be completed at the start
of the training to identify the available skills of the participants and also should be given out at
first contact with any trainees, the link of this survey was circulated to participants to complete it
during the session. The second part of the Digital Habits Survey is to follow up with trainees and
should be sent after a 6 month period of the training.
In addition he elaborated about the Training Evaluation survey which has also a two parts, one
to be completed immediately at the end of any training to evaluate the effectiveness of the
training, and its link was circulated to participants at the end of the workshop to be completed.
The second part is to be completed after a period of 6 months ideally, and a minimum of 3
months.
Session 2: Competency Based Theory (CBT)
Prof. Josep Juandó (WUSmed) introduced the CBT to the participants which offers an efficient
way to plan, teach and evaluate by competences, useful for educators from different educational
levels and context. Also; he presented the complete sequence of the teaching process through
applying CBT, with an elaboration of the competences kinds.

Session 3: Problem-based Learning (PBL)
Prof. Rikke Magnussen (AAU), introduce the PBL concept to the participants in which the students are
driven by a problem and learn through problem solving and work in teams for solving ‘real-life’
problems with the university’s surrounding community; private companies and public authorities.
Session 4: Flipped Learning (Introduction to)
Prof. John Traxler (UOW) introduced the flipped learning to the participants and how is about
encouraging the students to become autonomous active learning. Also; he presented some key questions
to optimize the usage of the student time during his presence in the campus.
Moreover; the ideas of applying the flipped learning was introduced to the audience which includes using
the online learning platforms and gather the real world data by conducting survey, interview,
measurement, video, observation, visits, and field-trips, etc.
Prof. Traxeler also addressed the different implementation aspects and how it is depending on different
issues such as the available infrastructure, technology, coverage, tariffs and access of students (and staff)
and other objective or external factors and on the attitudes, experiences, aptitudes, competences, etc.
Session 5: General Guidelines for Implementation
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Lutfi Al-Sharif (UJ) who is in the process of developing a two
courses in the frame work of METHODS, the presented guidelines were based on the information gained
during the first training workshop of MEHTODS; which was conducted at Wolverhampton university in
United Kingdom; and also from his own practical perspective.
Prof. Al-Sharif firstly presented the current conventional approach in learning at Jordanian and
Palestinian universities and the obstacles to attain the best learning outcomes. Then; he showed how the
applied new modalities in learning will mitigate and overcome these obstacles.
After that he presented the practical guidelines in applying the Flipped Learning, Problem/Project Based
Learning, Competence Based Learning, and ECTS in addition to the challenges and benifts in applying
these methods.
Session 6: Moocs (Introduction )/Flipped Classroom model
Prof. Wasel Ghanem (BZU), defined the flipped learning approach and MOOC tool, and how is the
MOOC is being used for the flipped learning. Also; he presented the history of MOOCS and the key
elements of a Flipped Classroom and the advantages and disadvantages of applying it. Also; he presented

the steps for planning and running a MOOC and how the course outline could be designed for weeks.
Session 8: Jordan Universities Network (UJ)
Prof. Saleh Al-Sharaeh (UJ), delivered a presentation about Jordan Universities Network, which is a a
non-profit company with limited liability owned by Jordanian public universities. It was established in
July 2003 as a first stage of the National Broadband Network (NBN). In his presentation he identified the
network and its business model and management and its role; which is summarized in supporting the
goals of higher education and E-learning in Jordan, by providing information and communications
technology services that meets the latest trends such as cloud computing, relying on the internal network
between universities.
This session aimed to open the doors for cooperation between (JUNet) and METHODS project.
Session 7: Sample Implementation
This session was dedicated to present and discuss the work of each partner university in Jordan and
Palestine developing METHODS courses as it was agreed on in the first training workshop in University
of Wolverhampton in United Kingdom.
I. The University of Jordan Implementation
Prof. Al-Sharif (UJ) presented some of the practical implementation issues as they are applied in his
courses, his presentation discussed the Types of Projects, Staged Approach, Group selection and
assessment, and Competences achieved.
Dr. Alshboul (UJ) and Dr. Rodan (UJ) delivered a presentation about applying the Flipped Learning
and Project Based Learning in their courses and its different positive and negative aspects. Also; a
Sample Implementation of the two courses at School of Educational Sciences & IT at UJ was presented.
II. An-Najah National University
Dr. Daraghmeh (ANNU) presented the progress and the followed methodology in developing the
selected four courses at his university in the framework of METHODS.
III. Palestine Polytechnic University
Prof. Al-Joulani (PPU), Prof. Al-Saheb (PPU), Dr. Shahin(PPU), and Dr. Tamimi (PPU)
presented the progress in developing their courses, they elaborated about the Intended Learning
Outcomes in each course and how the different learning methods will be applied in their courses.

IV. Bethlehem University
Mr. Kleibo (BU), presented the followed learning methods at his university and presented the
progress in developing the selected courses for METHODS project.
V. Birzeit University
Dr. Ghanem (BZU), presented the achieved progress in developing the different courses. In
addition; he presented the LMS that will be used in METHODS.
VI. Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan
Eng. Abdelhafeth (ZUJ) presented the progress in the four courses to be developed in
METHODS.
VII. Hashemite University
Dr. Kassawneh (HU) presented the progress in the four courses to be developed in METHODS.
Session 8: METHODS Project Update, Action Plan and Next activities
Prof. Ahmed Al-Salaymeh (UJ) and Dr. Wasel Ghanem (BZU) delivered a presentation about
the progress and status of all projects' work packages.
Session 9: Steering Committee Meeting
A meeting for steering committee members was conducted to decide about the next activities and
tasks within METHODS project.
