as a. great success, because, as is natul'al with tru·e :Mlissi<mary iBwptdsts, we have met the :false reliig~ons w:ilthout compromliSing. An.d:, wh:He stubborniy :resist~ng their deceptive dootrines and !P'fi3.'CtiC'es, we not only have held on to what we lha.d, we !have gained. Bapti.&t progress has never ibeen of wlhlirlwind velocity, that is, for very long interV'ails. Baptists have never been greeted warnnly !by tihe world nor can we hope to oompete wti!th the devH-dnsp.ired so-oalled churohes. To :run p8JI"allel with or to sustain ·an equail e~ansion enjoyed by false clhurclles, Ba~ptists must of necessity, become soft and allergic to lheresy. To do tihis ,1Jraitovous act woUIJd be to fvaternize like 1tlhe "Son;s of God" with the "daughters of men". The unlholy affiinity ·Would bring tihe same reSU]!tS, disaster. I

At the very beg.inmng of my tenure iin office o.f Secretary-Treasurer, ii felt my obiJi,ga.tion •strongly in the direction o.f .promoting a sOlid rather than a mushroom-growth missi:ona.ry prog:rann. This concept has grown Wli.tlh my exper~ence and observation, and has lbeen Ute doindn18Jting factor liin the leaders!hip I have .given the churches who ihave so tr:u;stingly assigned to me il:his important task. 'l1his approa.cl!. has in ·tihe eyes of some, fuiled to accomplish as much as tihey ex:pected, bowever, only .time and sUJbsequent response will test the advisabl'ltity o.f such a course.

There ~ no place frn the m.lission field for a missionary, however !hard !he may work and however likable he may appear, ilf ihe compromises the :tl'Uth, preaches :i!t ap'Ologetimlly, or, for ex.pediency, practices something inconsistent with or inimiiCal to the princlilples so long cha.ractertistic in Missionary Baptists. I have no quailm a:bout ,the course I iha.ve fol:lowed, but I do feel that I pel'lhaps have not 81P!Plied ~f as ·vigorously and as Wli.sely as opportunity, time and ciroUlillSI1lances, afforded. I ask 1the chla'dhes and pastors to be as genero'UIS w:itlh me in your patience and sympathy as you !have in your ;pmyers and financiall: support.

The other missio:naries have worked hard and fatthfuUy, but Uke mysellf, have been disa.ppointed as well as elated over lth<e work done. Some o.f our projects started in good f3Jtth and :promlisfr'lljg' at the outset, Tailed to ma;terialize and :were abandoned. In addfrtion to !the many souls that have been led to Christ through your llll!issionary pro~ram, the mult~tudes that have !heard rtihe gospel and dlid not accept, ifJhe overall strengthening 1of ·the wo:vk and the in· roads made in new fields, we !have one new clhurolr in Hiill:lsboro. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

By education we mean ;the dra;wing out and deve:Loping of a life, by Christian education we mean the drawing out and developing of the la;tent talents tha;t God has entrusted to a Wife. Today, as never before we stand in need of Ohristia;n training to meet the gross wol'lks of darkness. lF1a;lse tea;chings are on every !hand. Hell's agents are being trained in ·the propaga;tion ,of error. This not only presents a need but a eh3;llenge for A·ssodation Baptists today.

The process of Christian training lis tJhe responsibiLity of the parents in :the home. Wh!at a great need there is torday for more Godfearing parents to bring their ·children up in the nuture and the admonition of the Lord.

'I1he teac'hing 'agencies of the churches are furthering this process of Christian education. Through our N.A.B.A. Publi<cattons we are provided good literature for the tea;Cihing •and training of our people. More of our ,ciJ:J:urches should take advantage of these tea;ching aidS'.

Beyond •the local ·churches our people own and operate several Bihle Schools 'a!!ld Colleges. Recently the N.A.B.A. Jaunched a .Seminary project. Progreg.s is being reported by these various sc!hools. We need rul of tlhem and e•a;Cih is worthy of >the support uf our !Missionary Bapt1st people. At the present •trlme, 'as well as in former years, there are several students in Conway BaptiS't College from t!he ·State of Missouri. We appreciate them and welcome more. Since the College at Conway is ·the neareSit ·to your 'State, we are in better position to serve you ·than any other school. We welcome you to take advanta;ge of this work.
