development.

Lanark County Tourism Looking Back to 2015
Ottawa Travel & Tourism Show 2015LCTA hosted a booth at the Ottawa Travel & Tourism Show, an annual event that sees more than 18,000 participate in the show over a two‐day span.

Specifically LCTA was instrumental in securing air time on CJOH News at Noon for a maple cooking demonstration.

• Initiate collaboration workshops with a goal of extending tourism visits to Lanark County into multi‐day visits

Valley Heartland Regional Economic Development Officer (REDO)
Position Description
One‐Year Renewable Part‐time Contract (3 days/week)
Reporting to the Board of Directors and the Operations Manager of Valley Heartland (VH), the Valley
Heartland Regional Economic Development Officer (REDO) will:
Promote VH as the leader in economic development in Lanark and North Leeds and the source
of economic development support through its loans and grants programs, business counselling,
and networking opportunities
As an employee of VH, act as the Community Economic Development Officer for Lanark County
and municipalities throughout the Valley Heartland CFDC catchment area (Lanark County and
North Leeds)
Working with Lanark County:
o develop and implement an Economic Development strategy around food, including the
identification of goals, and an evaluation plan to determine measurable outcomes and
identify how the strategy can relate to regional tourism
o develop and implement an annual Work Plan and budget based on priorities identified
by the County and Valley Heartland
o participate in the regular County budget process as needed to identify annual priorities
o develop partnerships to assist in compiling and providing links to investment information for publication on the Lanark County website (www.LanarkCounty.ca) Economic Development page (maintained by County Staff), including production of an informative brochure.
Coordinate regular economic development meetings which bring municipal staff and key
stakeholders together for the purpose of networking, sharing best practices, building capacity
and for identifying and developing, where the opportunity arises, regional collaborative projects
and initiatives aimed at spurring growth and development (these projects may be strategic,
multi‐year projects with measurable outcomes)
Provide leadership through broad community involvement which promotes the economic well‐
being of the communities and Lanark and North Leeds regions
Be the catalyst for economic development to attract business in support of economic
development strategies of Counties and municipalities in the service area
Develop and provide consultations, reports, and interpretations of social, economic,
demographic and community data to assist in regional and municipal planning and promotion
Ensure that all economic development and strategic plans respect any existing community
planning documents
Develop and implement effective local and regional business retention and expansion programs
Facilitate connections between businesses and business support programs
Develop and implement business attraction initiatives, including generating, contacting and
pursuing business leads; conducting company prospect research; meeting with business owners

and senior managers to present and promote the region as an investment destination for
location and expansion
Develop materials for promotion, such as business directories, brochures, community profiles,
websites, and social media information; develop measurement metrics for tracking the
effectiveness of such materials in use and monitor performance
Plan, coordinate, promote and deliver economic development‐related events including
seminars, economic forums, etc.
Coordinate and lead major Sector Summit/Conference opportunities to spur development in
identified priority sectors (conferences may be offered in partnership with regional, municipal or
provincial summits) which respond to an expressed need/industry trends
Coordinate monthly and/or annual meetings, provide in‐person consultations, and act as a
community resource for municipalities, regions, and companies
Actively provide information (including participation from local municipal staff) to Ontario Ministry representatives and Ontario East Economic Development regarding business investment opportunities or business development opportunities (i.e. vacant properties, businesses for sale, other economic assets) for inclusion into programs and listings sought by investors.
Assess and develop an inventory of sites for business location and respond to enquiries from
businesses with information on sites, zoning, official planning documents, development charges,
taxes, and local conditions for business operation and growth
Provides site selection assistance, relocation assistance, promote workforce incentives, and support new start‐ups, innovation and business development
Provide tours to prospects of potential sites for location or expansion
Provide guidance in accessing provincial and federal programs. Monitor grant and funding
opportunities or partnerships to further economic development goals and initiatives. Prepare
applications for program of value to the County for economic development initiatives
Liaise with government departments to keep up to date on governmental directions and/or
changes in policy affecting businesses (e.g., Revenue Canada, Agriculture, Service Canada,
Industry Canada, Ontario Ministries)
Liaise with local and regional business organizations
Attend relevant conferences, seminars, and workshops; promote and pursue business
opportunities
Monitor expenditures and control costs to keep within the allocated budget for all activities
Provide monthly reports to the Board of Valley Heartland and Local Councils as needed, on
activities, outcomes, and key performance metrics regarding initiatives.
Education, Skills and Experience Qualifications:
Economic development experience (minimum 3 years)
Degree or Diploma training in economic development and/or business, entrepreneurship
A broad general knowledge of business and government
Good understanding of finance and budgeting
