Asterism
From the early hunter folk seeing shapes and figures in the stars to now using high-tech telescopes to scan the skies, we have always looked up to the constellations for something sublime. In Asterism, Kaamna Patel and Kristina Chan use images sourced from the Hubble telescope, which are then produced as
limited edition pigment prints on Japanese Washi paper. An instrumental recording by Rahul Nadkarni will accompany the show.
Ephemera 2016Ephemera is a collection of rare textile mill
labels and advertisements from colonial India, some of which were conceptualised in
the UK and printed in Germany. The collection dates back to the early 1900s, and features original chromolithographs by Raja Ravi Varma, who was widely celebrated for blending European aesthetics and Indian sensibilities, and his contribution to the creation of what is now known as ‘Indian kitsch’.
46 PillarsOver the last three months, artist Sheetal
Gattani transformed the gallery of Chemould Prescott Road into her site-
specific art installation, 46 Pillars. For this, Gattani re-imagined the city of Mumbai on 46 pillars at the gallery. As part of creating an immersive experience, even the walls are adorned with new drawings from her series White Grass.
ChronicleColourful sculptures, based on both mythical
and real creatures of the sea, make up Parag Tandel’s third solo exhibition at Tarq. Chronicle
focuses on the ideas of ecology and migration, and attempts to engage the viewers in a conversation about how our practises are affecting our planet.
Open EndedSakshi Gallery is currently hosting a group
show, comprising colourful works by artists such as Anirban Mitra, Jagannath Panda,
Rekha Rodwittiya and Vasudha Thozhur.
Zones of PrivacyFor this show, artists and photographers reinvent
the medium of books and present it as works of art. Around 26 artists — including the likes of
photographer Dayanita Singh and painter Nityan Unnikrishnan — have contributed to Zones of Privacy. The show has been curated by Rukminee Guha Thakurta of design studio Letterpress.
A Thing of BeautyUrbanisation and climate change is slowly leading to the loss of all
that was once natural — this forms the basis of A Thing of Beauty,a group show at The Loft. The works exhibited draw inspiration
from the natural world. Participating artists include Nandini Bagla Chirimar, Ratna Gupta, Prajakta Palav, Sarika Bajaj, Sonia Mehra Chawla, Sumakshi Singh and Valay Gada. The show is part of the gallery’s eighth anniversary celebrations.
