What is Open Street Map &Humanitarian Open Street Map Team?

Open Street Map, is an open source, online map platform that allows anyone (Yes, that means YOU!) to document, places and areas within the world. This is called "arm chair mapping"

HOT or Humanitarian Open Street Map Team: Engages volunteers to create maps during or after a disaster, to provide maps with real time data for emergency personnel.

Editors For OSM ID – In browser editor; real time edits JSOM – downloadable editor; you must upload your

edits to OSM Arc GIS 10.1 – a free, open-source add-on for ArcGIS for

Desktop Potlatch – In browser editor which uses a flash plug in. Field Papers –print out pages of areas you want to

physically see and then edit them in OSM. Mapillary – App; Android/OS; Street view for OSM

Editing Attributes and Rules Lines: Points and Areas

Lines; Streets; Bike paths; POI's : Points of Interest : Monuments; Areas : Buildings; Parks etc Layers in Editor are different from what you saw on the home screen:;

you can still choose what layer you want and add your own map tiles!!! Few Key Rules:

1.) Don't use google : ever. You can use Bing, Mapbox and Mapquest aerial imagery only

2.) Comment about your changes. 3.) add addresses and all relevant data to the best of your ability..

need to log in! You will then be able to

select a box , if this box is too big feel free to split it up and take a smaller piece! 

You need to "Lock" your task so that others don't work in the same area as you.
