The Girls in Engineering Academy (GEA) is a collaborative project of The Engineering Society of Detroit and the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). The purpose of GEA is to improve academic achievement and increase interest in Engineering topics and careers among underrepresented girls from Detroit; and decrease the gender gap that negatively impact these girls' successful matriculation through the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education pipeline and into STEM careers, particularly into engineering.

How to apply?Applications can be found online at www.esd.org. Applications will be open from January 8, 2018 through May 31, 2018.
When will applicants be notified?GEA will notify applicants of their acceptance or wait list status after April 1, 2018.We will not be able to respond to status requests before this date. Please provide a frequently checked email or text on the application.
What is the cost?Only $125.00 (meals & transportation)
Who is eligible for the program? Current 5th grade
females Must attend DPSCD
school Have a GPA of 2.5 or
better (B average in
GE
provide math and science enrichment; English/ Language Arts; hands-on project-based STEM activities; life skills development; mentoring; pre-college experiences; and engineering career exploration.
GEA will select 30 middle-school girls from DPSCD to participate in a summer and academic year program. The summer experience will engage students over a four-week period, from 9 AM – 4 PM, Monday – Friday. GEA will
