The Girls in Engineering Academy (GEA) is a collaborative project of The Engineering Society of Detroit and the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). The purpose of GEA is to improve academic achievement and increase interest in Engineering topics and careers among underrepresented girls from Detroit; and decrease the gender gap that negatively impact these girls' successful matriculation through the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education pipeline and into STEM careers, particularly into engineering.

provide math and science enrichment; English/ Language Arts; hands-on project-based STEM activities; life skills development; mentoring; pre-college experiences; and engineering career exploration.

GEA will select 30 middle-school girls from DPSCD to participate in a summer and academic year program. The summer experience will engage students over a four-week period, from 9 AM – 4 PM, Monday – Friday. GEA will
