We have had such a wonderful first half of the school year and have enjoyed so many great learning moments. The students have grown into such amazing independent beings who are able to share their learning in so many ways. At this point in the year the students really begin to show their independence and are much more able to manage their own learning and understand their goals and areas for development. As always we have had such a busy Term 2 with so many wonderful activities and events taking place. We began early on in the Term with the Moana Girl’s Breakfast and ended with a great Yin and Yang Mufti Day. Some of the students in Year 3 had a truly amazing time with their Noho experience at the end of Term 2. The students slept in the hall and observed various Maori protocols associated with such an event. Marissa Ly in LZ 7 writes, ‘The Noho experience was usual enough, we brushed our teeth and got changed into our clothes, then we went to bed. But we did not get to shower, we don't normally sleep on mats and we don't sleep in sleeping bags! Jessica was wriggling and jiggling I could not sleep the whole time. In and out of my sleeping bag I thought I would never sleep but I did’.

Integrated StudiesIn Term 3 we will continue to build on the fantastic first half of the year anddevelop our Integrated Studies theme of the 'Blue Planet'. The Year 1students will be exploring animal habitats and will look at ways of recreatingthese habitats to show how animals have adapted to suit their livingconditions. Students in Years 2 and 3 will be exploring the Earth and how ithas changed over time. They will be creating a presentation that details theEarth’s movement over time and how this has effected life in New Zealand. The students in the Fire Studio will be creating a product that they hopefullywill be able to sell to generate much needed funds to save theendangered animals they learnt about in Term 2. They will be exploringvarious chemical changes in food and developing a food product that willbe good enough to eat!

School Uniform RemindersI would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the school uniform atMission Heights Primary. We would like students to wear long sleeved schoolpolo shirts if they are cold, not short sleeved tops with underclothesshowing. The MHP long sleeved polo shirt can be purchased from JohnRussel Menswear in Howick. If the students to wish to wear something undertheir school uniform this should not be visible at all. The start of a new term isalso a good time to check that names are clearly written inside items ofclothing (including PE kits) so that these can be retuned to their ownershould they be misplaced. Please ensure your child is wearing a well fittedschool uniform and polar fleece to be smartly dressed for school. Junior Learning Community TeachersWe warmly welcome new students and their families who have joined us atMHP. Deputy Principal Carol Norton will be taking over as leader of theJunior Learning Community this term.

If you have a query please talk to your child's teacher in the first instance.Teachers are available briefly both before and after school but pleasemake an appointment if you need a longer discussion. You can contactthe JLC teachers on the emails below:
