Prevent & Empower: Community Education & Engagement: Prevent & Empower educates youth on prevention of dating violence and sexual violence through evidence-based curriculum in over 20 schools. WHW believes in the power of prevention. The greatest opportunity we have to help survivors is to stop the violence from ever happening in the first place. The Prevent & Empower Program also trains professionals on gender-based violence and effective response. WHW is the leader in prevention services in Hamilton and Butler Counties.

Crisis Intervention:WHW’s Crisis Intervention program provides crisis intervention services for direct and indirect (family and friends of) survivors of gender-based violence. Gender-based violence is the collective term for dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. Every year, WHW serves more and more survivors and is a leading responder to gender-based violence through its vital services that are based throughout the region—wherever survivors present.

WHW Services Overview

Page 3: Mission: Vision - Women Helping Women

If there is one message that WHW must be successful in generating it is this: Gender-based violence is common, complex and consequential—but it is PREVENTABLE.

What makes WHW unique? Our rapid growth, our innovation and our collaboration. We are a community-based organization that knows that survivors must be met wherever they present in the community. That’s why we have staff based at 8 agencies in the region and why we respond to over 15 hospitals, 20 schools, 3 campuses, 5 police districts, operate over 15 support groups, and have 3 offices in 4 counties.

Because WHW partners with so many diverse community groups, we literally meet survivors where they are -- physically and emotionally. That’s how WHW served nearly 7,000 survivors and responded over 38,000 times in the community in 2016 alone. Despite the 16% growth in serving survivors, we know that our work will never be done. The violence is simply happening too fast and at too high of rates. We need a powerful solution to this incomprehensible reality.

And that powerful solution is prevention.

WHW is strengthening its Prevent & Empower Program. We believe in investing in our youth as change agents. Prevent & Empower provides incredible school-based education to youth on dating and sexual violence prevention as well as works with athletic teams to empower athletes as prevention champions. This is where culture change has the greatest chance of success—with support of our younger generations—yet this is the most underfunded service of our agency. While we are incredibly grateful to the grants we receive for services to survivors, we need more support to prevent youth from ever becoming survivors. Will you join us and empower our investment in prevention?

Gender-based violence is a public health epidemic. And as with any public health epidemic, WHW knows it cannot address gender-based violence alone. We need everyone’s voices and influence -- from our community’s political leaders to our funding institutions, our corporate partners to our local athletic teams, from our students to our parents, and in our classrooms and from our homes. This is not just a woman’s issue—this is a human rights issue. Everyone has the right to safety, well-being and freedom from violence.

With sincere gratitude, thank you all for supporting WHW. With your voice, action and investment, we will continue to grow our services and resolve to transform our region into the vibrant and healthy communities that we believe they are destined to be.

2016 Year in Review: Growing and Placing our Mission IN the Community:

2016 Unduplicated Clients:2016 Client Service Units

Net Income $168,075Total Assets $574,161

WHW is on an upward trajectory in serving our four county region of Hamilton, Butler, Brown and Adams Counties. The year 2016 was one of strong growth as the agency increased its service to survivors over 16% and grew prevention services over 15%. This upward growth to meet our region’s needs could not be achieved with-out the support of our generous donors and community partners!

WHW advocates meet survivors wherever they are, with whatever support they need, whenever they call.

“Tracy” reached out to WHW’s advocates for help in 2016. She was physically and emotionally abused by her husband, and had three children under the age of 12. After reaching out to multiple agencies, Tracy finally got a response from WHW.

“(This year) was our first one that was filled with laughter, smiles… and a host of emotions we were never privileged to have. With all our hearts… we send to you all the appreciation and love we can.”

“(Before reaching out to WHW) We expected to be homeless.”

“We still have a bumpy road ahead... But your love and generosity gave us the one thing we needed more than anything to go on...

HOPE.

Tracy’s goal was to keep her and her children safe. To do that, Tracy’s advocates spoke with her about WHW’s services and her options:

Tracy chose to file for a protection order against her husband, which ordered him to stay 500 feet away from her. However, this also meant that Tracy would be evicted from her home and lose her job, as she worked at her husband’s business. Tracy was finally safe, but she and her children had lost their home and income.

WHW collaborates with community partners to make sure that ALL survivors receive the support, encouragement, and empowerment that they deserve. In Tracy’s case, this was no different. Over the course of a few short months, WHW advocates accompanied Tracy to court proceedings, helped her find a new job, a home, and even connected her to WHW’s Adopt a Family holiday program. By the end of 2016, Tracy had built up a new, safe, and laughter-filled home for her family.

Tracy continues to live in a safe, violence-free environment.

Thank you, Tracy, for your strength and perseverance. You truly are a survivor.

-Tracy
