God has been so very gracious to Abiding Faith as we have labored these 20 years under Pastor Morgan’s leadership. During his Church Projections, he cited the condition of the world around uspain, suffering, despair, evil running rampant. God is calling us to “lift Him up and strengthen His people with His Holy Word!” He challenged Abiding Faith to “gird up to run a more intensified race—to the glory of God!” We must go out and witness to this hurting people who are looking for fulfillment in the world. We must “share with them God’s precious gift of salvation”. We must “COMFORT THE PEOPLE WITH HIS WORD!” Pictured, Pastor Morgan thanks Pastor John Ogletree, Jr., and the First Metropolitan Church for sharing in our 20 th Anniversary Program on Sunday evening. Pastor Ogletree encouraged us with our current theme for 2011-2012: One in Christ Jesus, Sanctified in Truth, “Igniting Hope.” He spoke to our hearts from the message: The Tie That Binds.” God’s Word is Truth and we are tied together with this truth. Pastor Ogletree’s sharing this anniversary with us was an example of God’s divine sovereignty! Just 20 years ago, in October, 1993, he shared with us on our very 1 st Anniversary service. We were tremendously blessed to rekindle the fellowship. We look forward to another celebration of God’s goodness, mercy and everlasting love. Contributing Photographer: Debbie Harper

The Expression of Love our Ministry, which he and Sister Spencer, along with Sister Bernice Martin, served, speaks to the character of Deacon Charles, the epitome of love, compassion and service. On November 17, 2012, we said farewell to Deacon Spencer. And if you are like me, every time I look at his face on that program, it seems so surreal and I shake my head in disbelief! Or, when I walk through the double doors I expect him to be standing there smiling, handing me a church bulletin. Some of us knew him for a short while, others longer; but we each have an empty space in our lives and in our hearts because he is no longer among us. We miss him and our hearts are saddened; but we know he is in the arms of Jesus and receiving the rewards of his labor—and what labor! Until we meet again, our beloved brother, you are infinitely missed!

To be a Deacon is to be a servant and have a servant’s heart; to strive to lead by example and not by authority. You won’t find a better example of a man who loved and feared the Lord, and sought the common good of the church and others, than Deacon Charles W. Spencer. He exemplified witness, sympathy, and service after the example of Jesus Christ.

Happy Thanksgiving from God's Precious Gems! (G.P.G) started the Thanksgiving holiday off with a bang at their November meeting. The Gems (with the help of their matrons) cooked a delicious meal! Terrie Lewis and Cherina Jones, Coordinator of the Ministry, assisted the elementary girls in cooking a homemade chocolate cake, Nikki Jones facilitated the junior high girls in cooking mac and cheese and a green salad, and Wanda Johnson and the high school girls slow cooked candied yams! Dimple Fisher baked a scrumptious ham and a turkey to make the meal a true Thanksgiving feast! God's Precious Gems and Young Men for Christ meet every third Sunday at 4 pm between the months of September-April. We will not meet in December due to the Christmas season. Our meetings will resume in January 2013. All youth are invited to attend! Contributing photographer: Cherina Jones

Sunday November 11, 2012, marked the 94th Veterans Day. Established as Armistice Day in 1918, it was rededicated as Veterans Day by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954. President Eisenhower signed a bill proclaiming November 11 as Veterans Day, and called upon Americans everywhere to rededicate themselves to the cause of peace. A day that noted the end of World War I, the "war to end all wars”, has become a day to remember those who have served, and to remember there will never be a war to end all wars---on “this side.” Veterans Day honors ALL American veterans, both living and dead and is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for dedicated and loyal service to their country. November 11 of each year is the day that we ensure veterans know that we deeply appreciate the life sacrifices that each of them made to our country for our safety and freedom! The best way to have a "happy Veterans Day" is to do something special to make a veteran happy; consequently Abiding Faith did just that. A special dinner was held in their honor on November 16, 2012. According to Deacon Samuel Crowell, organizer of the event said the purpose was to bring those members who served in the armed services together to promote comradely. He hopes that it will become an annual commemoration and that the group will evolve into a ministry of the church and positions themselves to somehow assist in community efforts. The program consisted of a short devotion, a statement by Deacon Crowell, a word of thanks to those who have served by Rosie Williams, a few other preliminaries and good food and fellowship. An “unofficial” count of vets serving at Abiding Faith is approximately 24. We praise and thank God for these men and women who have served our country well and are now serving at Abiding Faith! *(See pictures of event on the web: www.abidingfaithbc.org , Event tab).

Emergency Fund Drive – Pray, Listen, and make your sacrificial pledge!

If you have not already done so, please pick up your pledge card from one of our dutiful ushers, pray for God’s guidance as to how much, and make a sacrificial pledge to support this fund. It will be used for emergencies that arise at Abiding Faith. Just as we experience need for emergency repairs and replacements at our homes, likewise, our Church faces the same situations. It is our responsibility to insure that when this occurs we are positioned to satisfy the need. This is the purpose of the Fund—to satisfy emergency needs at our church. The drive was initiated in November and will run for 1 year. So, complete your card and get started! You will be blessed, our church will benefit and God will be pleased!

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age”. (Matthew 28:19-20) Abiding Faith is blessed by God to have a tremendous array of outreach ministries designed specifically for the purpose of reaching out to the unsaved and hurting. Our Pastor has given to each of us-- as individuals and to the church as a whole-- a charge for 2013, “go”, “tell”, and “bring”. Go and tell them about Jesus and bring them to our “safe house”—the church! The A.F.E.A.T. (Abiding Faith Evangelistic Action Team) is a compilation of divisions that need additional committed and dedicated workers to fulfill Jesus’ Great Commandment and our Pastor’s “charge” for 2013! These divisions are: Angel Tree Prison Ministry whose objective is: Ministering to children and families of prisoners by sharing the true meaning of Christmas with children in our community.

The Christian Challengers’ ministry is geared to the “differently” blessed. This ministry was developed for the purpose of bringing the mentally challenged people of our community into the knowledge of our Lord and Savior that they might accept His great salvation.

Community Service Mentoring serves teenagers in our Ft Bend County community service program. It provides a Christian environment for teenagers to complete their community service.

The Elderly Ministry ministers to the lonely and neglected aged in our community.

The Open Door Mission is served by the Homeless Ministry. Spiritual Food (God’s Word) is served, giving the partakers an opportunity to receive God’s gift of salvation, and then physical food is served.

The Transportation Ministry serves our Christian Challenges and other individuals who wish to attend church service but lack the transportation.

Working in concert with these divinely appointed groups of people are the Harvesters. This “ensemble” of individuals has been schooled and trained in the skills of evangelism. They have undergone 12 weeks of vigorous training and hands on experience in the process of witnessing in the field to the unsaved. They actively participate in sharing salvation through Jesus Christ from door-to-door, to whomever will listen.

We currently have many committed and dedicated individuals who are actively using their gifts to further the Gospel by working in the business of bringing individuals to Christ and reaching out as Jesus did, to all who need comfort and encouragement. However, as the scripture references: “the harvest (truly) is plentiful; but the laborers are few”.

Evangelism/ Door-to-Door/ Tent Ministry-- The Objective of this three-in-one effort is to aggressively share the Gospel message of love in our community.

We admonish you to seriously consider taking a part in this great Spiritual Outreach Revolution!

Please contact Deacon Phillip Collins or Mamie Collins, unfaltering leaders of the A.F.E.A.T. Ministry, and let them know that you are ready to serve in this great A.F.E.A.T Revolution at Abiding Faith!!

“What a fellowship, what a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms; What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, leaning on the everlasting arms”.

What a fellowship and what a blessing we experienced during the celebration of our 20th anniversary. As I reflect on our 20 years of living, loving, and growing in the will and knowledge of our God, my heart is overwhelmed with praise and thanksgiving. I thank God for meeting and exceeding our expectations as we sought His wisdom, plans and guidance for our anniversary celebrations. The various activities presented were well planned, well attended and enjoyed by all. Our Family and Friend’s Day, as always, was a wonderful pleasure as we worshiped and shared a delicious meal together. All of our activities were designed to bring us closer together as a church family, also to exhibit our love for one another but most of all to honor and glorify our heavenly Father. Pastor Morgan, received honorable service plaques at the Anniversary Dinner from the City of Houston, City of Missouri City, Constable Ruben Davis, and Representative Al Green The culmination of our anniversary celebration was a very meaningful worship experience on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 3:30pm... Pastor

John Oglegtree, Jr. was our guest speaker. His message to us: “The Tie that Binds”, taken from our present annual Church theme: “One in Christ Jesus, Sanctified in Truth, “Igniting Hope”. He declared that “truth” is the tie that binds! (John 17:11, 19) His message was both challenging and encouraging. Our “surprise guests” were Thelma Samuels and Deborah Bell two former charter members of AFBC. They both spoke about Abiding Faith’s early beginnings, with passion, devotion, and laughter. I can just imagine that we were all transported back to that blessed time of coming together to organize and later build a House of God! Abiding Faith as we press on by faith, we dare not rest on our accomplishments. Prayerfully, with greater passion, zeal, perseverance and determination we will remain steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as we know that our labor is not in vain in the Lord. God has destined us for greatness!! To God is the Glory! Iris Petitt Church Historian
